As the state senate trial for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is currently ongoing, do you think he will be convicted and removed from office once a vote is held? Or is he going to be acquitted and returns to office?

Very likely.  I don't think the impeachment would have been brought if they weren't sure they had the votes lined up in the Senate to convict.

Haven't been following this more recently, voted Yes as an quasi-educated guess. We'll see if it pans out...

Seriously, dude? Paxton's toast. We'll probably find out later today. You don't need to take a knee jerk negative stance on everything regardless of how realistic said stance is.

I agree. I think that he survives by one or two votes.

The fact that impeachment was even brought up indicates that he's probably going to be removed. Republicans don't usually do this to their own unless they truly believe said person is guilty beyond the point of covering it. The question I have is how Paxton's wife will vote.

She's already recused herself from the vote.

Not exactly.  The chamber adopted rules that removed her from any active participation in the case, over her "no" vote on the rules package, indicating that she did intend to participate if allowed.

Also, note that the rules specify that her recusal does not impact the "denominator" to determine the 2/3rds majority required for removal.  That is to say, a 20/10 vote would be a Paxton acquittal.  It requires at least 21/9 to remove him.

Per the Texas Tribune, the Senate has finished deliberating and will begin voting at 10:30am CDT today.  If 21 senators vote to convict on any of the 16 articles of impeachment, Paxton will be removed and permanently barred from holding public office in Texas.

He's been acquitted on the first three counts with only two Republicans voting to convict, so it's looking a lot like no unless they're going to be really picky about which charges they convict on.

And that should do it, Paxton acquitted on the 16th and final charge.  I *believe* every vote was 14-16 against conviction.

I also thought this would be an easy vote, and I owe an apology too. Just goes to show, you should never underestimate the Texas GOP's willingness for shameless self-protection and moral turpitude.

I think most where led astray by the House vote, which could be Dade Phelan's personal fief.
