I'm sure forum members who said that Allen could possinly be defeated were called stupid. However I do bear in mind those were much diffrent  circumstances.

Why do Republicans hate Kerry? He's a centrist, and the best you're going to get out of Massachusetts. I'd like to see him replaced by a more left-wing Democrat, too, but the seat is safe.

On what planet is Kerry a centrist?  Certainly not the planet Earth, where I live.

Kerry isn't especially vulnerable, and I have no delusions of someone actually beating him.  But that being said, I don't especially like the man (like most people in Massachusetts who aren't registered as Democrats), and would love to see an actual alternative run against him.

My wish list doesn't include Kerry Healey (who needs to just fade into the sunset and realize how unpopular her blisteringly negative campaign made her), nor does it include State Senator Scott Brown, who I've personally met and know to be a just plain horrible human being.  Any of the other GOP State Senators would be most welcome ideologically (all social liberals), but I'd rather have them in the State Senate.  I don't think the GOP is competent enough to hold any of their seats, and the current 35 - 5 Democratic advantage in the upper house is way too lopsided as it is.

Also off the list: Ken Chase.  Ugh.

My wish list does, however, include former Rep. Reed Hillman, who would have made a better candidate for Governor than Healey herself, and it also includes my dream candidate, Rep. Paul Loscocco of Holliston, who, again I personally met and know to be a good genuine politically saavy human being (though politically saavy enough never to run for Senate, I'm sure).

And if we're just talking about warm bodies, I'm sure Rappaport has nothing better to do.

The GOP nomination against Kerry should be seen as at least somewhat desirable, since a stronger than expected run would vault the candidate to the head of the pack come the 2010 race against Patrick.

i agree that hillman would be a good candidate.

what about andy card?

i think the republican nomination for governor in 2010 is going to go to charlie baker of harvard pilgrim health care.  i doubt he will get much competition for the nomination.

I've met Loscocco too and I actully voulenteered on his campaign in 2000 when he was first elected. He's got the talent and skills but he's living in MA and that's his only flaw.

BTW: Where are you from in MA?

Maybe he could give Kerry a run for his money, He could campagin as a Washington outsider and paint Kerry as someone who has been in Wahington too long and that it is time for someone new, Also is he a liberal Republican? that could help because someone like Collins or Chafee could win here or has MA become so hackish that no Republican could ever be elected to the Senate?

I sincerely hope the tone and timbre of the Coleman campaign are higher than the Photoshop rush job there that appeals to the absolute lowest common denominator.

Bolded part = true. Especially in a presidential year.

And I hope it isn't. Smiley

If the Massachusetts GOP is dumb enough to run a member of the Bush Administration for US Senate in 2008, then they deserve to be relegated to fourth party status behind the Green-Rainbowers and the Libertarians.

I've met Loscocco too and I actully voulenteered on his campaign in 2000 when he was first elected. He's got the talent and skills but he's living in MA and that's his only flaw.

I met Loscocco in 2004 when he was considering a run for State Senate against Karen Spilka (he eventually passed on it, I assume because he realized he'd probably have lost).

These days, I'm living in Davis Square, Somerville.

I'd classify Loscocco as a moderate Republican -- he was the author of the gay marriage compromise bill that narrowly failed in 2004, which is the only strike against him in my opinion.

But seriously, no Republican will ever win election to the US Senate in Massachusetts barring some sort of "Bob Torricelli" miracle event.
