This bill would repeal the Bears Stadium act, which earmarks three hundred million dollars of public funds to construct a replacement for Soldier Field.

As I said in the Legislation Introduction thread:

Quote
I don't think the region should be spending three hundred million of taxpayer dollars to fund a new stadium for the Bears and Cubs.  If the State of Illinois wants to do that, let them go ahead and do it...but the region itself has more important priorities than corporate handouts.

Let's focus our efforts on providing solutions and funding for small business startups, not sports teams run by millionaires.

Yielding for debate.

As someone who voted against the original bill and begrudgingly abstained on the final bill, I’m fine with this since it’s not too late to take this back.

I endorse the repeal because football and baseball stadiums should never be combined, let's not repeat the same mistakes our friends in Oakland did, right? Tongue

On a serious note, the region is not in a position to earmark a nearly $300 million blank check to the Chicago Bears, and stadiums should not be built with public money, especially with zero provisions for public ownership.

Unfortunately pursuant to the SOAP final votes cannot be called until the bill has been on the floor for 72 hours. That would be the forum timestamp of  July 14, 2023, 02:55:10 PM

However, I do motion for unanimous consent to waive the SOAP and move to a final vote. 24 hours for objections, so we'll be able to vote 12ish hours early.

By a vote of 5-0-0, the bill passes and goes to the governor's desk for his signature or veto.
