Chicago Bears Stadium Act

The Government of Lincoln of shall earmark $300 million and the Chicago Bears and the NFL also shall earmark $300 million for a new football stadium to replace Soldier Field as the home of the Chicago Bears.

This stadium shall be dual-use for baseball, and shall serve as an alternate home for both the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox in the event of a schedule conflict at either Wrigley Field or Guaranteed Rate Stadium for any reason.

The City of Chicago shall own the rights to the stadium's name, likeness and image for future use.

This legislation shall be null and void if the stadium is not completed by September 1, 2027.

Any unused balance at the completion of the stadium shall be returned to the Lincoln Government.

I vote aye, because the renovations of this stadium costs more than building a new one. But only on the condition that half of the declared amount will be invested not by taxpayers, but by the Chicago Bears and the NFL.

The original vote passes 3-2-1.

Question is on the Redraft offered by the Governor, further changing the funding structure. If the redraft is adopted, it is law. If the redraft is rejected, the Governor will be compelled to sign or veto the original.
