States, you'd probably like Grammelschmalz... which is a German specialty of everything that drips and falls off of a roasted pig back when being roasted.

Actually I like German potato salad which uses bacon grease. And yes, it is "unhealty" but cracklins actually have no carbs, which are really much worse then fat.

Does anyone else here say "bring/brang/brung"?

What about "buyed" instead of "bought"?

Am I the only person who doesn't know too many people over 25 who still have teeth?

Actually, a foreign born friend of our family has a 'second career' as a parole officer, and she always likes to point out that poor people in america generally loose their teeth at a very young age, not to mention myriad other health problems.  Essentially they have never had any access to health care, and have lived brutally unhealthy lives.

...and meth accelerates the tooth loss.

Out of morbid curiosity, how do you loose them that fast?  I mean if all you did was brush them twice a day, they'd probably last a while.  Do you guys purposely do things that ruin them-eat rocks or open beer bottles with them or...?

Poors don't have any dental care MaC - they typically have malformed and misplaced teeth.

As for meth, WalterMitty, that may be a reasonable point, but keep in mind that its use is caused by poverty and oppression.

I haven't been to a dentist in quite a while and I still have all my teeth.  A toothbrush and toothpaste don't cost a lot of money and brushing three times a day doesn't take a lot of effort.  Sorry, I don't buy your excuse.  I'm from an area with a lot of rural "poors" and most people still have their teeth, those who don't, well, they are usually just scumbags, quite frankly, or they are on meth, as Mitty suggested.

really, I heard meth was used across the board-well maybe not the richest, but plenty of middle class (and yes, a middle class does exist) soccer moms that want to escape the insipidness of suburban living and such...

I consider soccer moms to be basically upper class, not really middle class.

It is very funny that you wish to attribute dental troubles to 'moral' failings, Supersoulty!

Gabu, you are attempting to ignore a common political perspective held by millions of people, not just one poster.  This is not at all realistic if you wish to examine or understand politics.

As for middle class soccer moms taking meth, MaC, thats ridiculous.  Of course we may be talking about working class people mistakenly called 'middle class' by americans.  On this, as on every issue, Bandit is absolutely correct.

No one uses meth in Connecticut. If the preppies around here need something like that, they take ecstasy.

As much as you're not going to like hearing it, I do appreciate opebo's unique contribution to this forum.  Hell, he's nicer than most.  His political views are different-not sure I'd necessarily mean more liberal.  I like him more since he doesn't post as often.  A nice 'occasional' taste if you will, but not an every day argument with him.

It has become a huge problem in Central PA, esspecially the area I am from.  I'm not sure if it will get to Conn as it seems to be biggest in rural areas and amounst the middle and lower classes... Connecticut doesn't have any of those kinds of people

Hmm. Low class.... I think my taste in clothes would be a clue. Like StatesRights and MODU, I wear jeans, t-shirts, and baseball caps. I have a propensity to indulge in fast and junk food more than I should. And my interests, like baseball, football, Star Trek, action movies, anime. The way I speak would definitely give me away. Tongue

And I think being raised in Alaska might have an affect on what higher class people think.

Regarding clothes, I dress quite badly. On the other hand, since my mom and nowadays my girlfriend picks my clothes I'm not sure exactly what they convey. Back when my mum did it they were somewhat expensive. Now they're less so, but still somewhat upper middle class I think.

Hey States, have you ever had deep fried chicken skin?  I have just been eating a whole big plate of that - I think they were feet originally, but with the bones removed..  They deep fry them so they end up very similar to pork cracklins.  Salty, fatty, delicious!

Good breeding?  What are you all, dogs?

Or is this some sort of thing with a few individuals who come from "old money", and the countless wannabe's from the middle/upper middle class who seek status symbols (which tend to be poor investments such as overpriced vehicles) and act as though they were some sort of European nobility.

Our founding fathers showed the collective middle finger to such nonsense over two centuries ago.  Though I will not fault those who aquire wealth through accident of birth, I give them no special credit for it either.  It's the content of people's character and what they do with thier lives that counts.

I went to college with a number of well to do students, and have more than a few relatives which walk the avenues of power - and they have a variety of manners and natures.

Amongst the odder styles of the wealthy I've seen are the 'cookie socialist' (never worked a day in their lives.  Believe that the workers will rise up and make them leaders recognizing their inherent supreriority), the arogant (leave a 7 cent tip at burger king to help out those they consider 'poor and dumb'), the "patronizing/noblesse oblige" who attempt to at least be actually helpful to the 'lesser peoples' aka Kerry or GWHB - the latter of whom is also known to like pork rinds, and countless pretty much ordinary people who beyond having a few extra toys (and perhaps owning a100k worth of office equipment as a tax dodge for their parents) are indistinguishable from the "middle class".

I suppose my egalitarian nature, along with my refusal to "know my place" (as one of my professors told me once) gives me away as not being overly classist, and my rejection (for the most part - you may judge otherwise from my postings) of classist arrogance I suppose could earn me the disdain of the shallow.
