I am very unsurprised that Kasie Hunt was the one who tried to pull the whole "actually this may help Trump" argument

There's nothing unreasonable about what she asked. We don't know what the effect of this is going to be.

Conway was mad about something else.

I find it very unreasonable. If Joe Biden was convicted on 34 counts, you would not have any host asking "but what about this helping Biden?" it's complete both sides-ism.

I don't think it helps Trump at all, but a similar case would hurt Biden more than it hurts Trump. Why? That's easy: Because liberals and progressives, even the most pro-Biden partisan Dems, aren't in a cult. And if he or any other Dem was indicted over credible allegations - let alone convicted - they would abandon him faster than Usain Bolt can run. There's a reason Menedenez and Cuomo are widely discredited among Dem circles. Dems and Biden supporters aren't a cult.

Once again, these people will stop at nothing to downplay the situation and make it seem like it's somehow not that bad for Trump.

A *34 count felony conviction* is nothing like Kavanaugh. There is no allegory here.

We don't know if that would be asked since it's not happening. My guess is somebody might float the theory at some point in the wall to wall coverage. But regardless, whether anybody would ask it of Biden is not an argument that is it unreasonable to ask. We have some polling that the effect may be a wash, but it's not a wash because nobody will says it will change their mind, it's a wash because the effect is about the same either way. So it could come down to the enthusiasm gap.

As I said in the other thread, it's probably because he's not technically a convicted felon until he's sentenced.

Wikipedia seems somewhat Trump-friendly in other cases as well. For example, in the article listing all POTUS by height, they're seriously using his former doctor and Trump WH as source for putting him at 6'3. Despite the fact there are secondary sources as well as literal photo proof that this is false (standing next to Jeb Bush and Gavin Newsom, who are 6'3 confirmed, who are definitely taller than him, as is 6'2 Justin Trudeau and (slightly) 6'1.5 Obama). Apparently there was a discussion and users voted to only accept Trump's own sources, ergo buying his cheat. Even his driver's license has him only at 6'2 when he was in his prime.

Well I do think they should mention the conviction higher, it's kind of buried right now. I think it will probably change over time though.

Who did Kavanagh even help besides idiot Susan Collins? People who were mad a serial pervert got called out didn't need to be won over to Donald Trump.

Truly I do not understand the "if they can come for Trump, they can come for you" line. Nobody has ever doubted that they can come for average Americans if they want to.

As CCR famously said: "when the band plays "Hail to the Chief," they point the cannon at you."

We know they can come for us. They always have, whether it was the 1877 railroad strike, the Battle of Blair Mountain, COINTELPRO, or yes, both the George Floyd protests and January 6th. If anyone in the US doubts that they live under the authority of the federal government be it legitimately or capriciously, and that that government will act to reinforce that control, they are either extremely naive or extremely stupid.

What they never do is turn the canons around and go after the commander-in-chief. For the first time ever, the most powerful people are having to reckon with the consequences of the US not being authoritarian, but having the president be on the same level where the rest of us have always been. That's why yesterday was so special and why everyone who is not one of the six living US presidents should be celebrating it as one of the ultimate achievements of our democratic-republican system.

If Elon Musk is worried he might face justice because of this, that is a very good thing for the average American.

At least nobody can say now that Trump isn't a man of convictions.

The Elon Musk argument makes no sense. Well, yes, if any of us did what Trump did, we WOULD be convicted and held to consequences! What's the point there?

“Nevertheless, he’s the president, so we have to use his name.” Trump acknowledges the Warlock’s Covenant for the first time.

Trump among other things, has said in this press conference that the judge can't put 2 sentences together and also that he's a devil.

If Trump were being prosecuted for let's say, molesting an underage girl on Epstein Island, you would not see the kind of backlash we are seeing. People are rightfully angry at this verdict because anyone who isn't a democrat partisan can see how obviously political the whole charade is. If you are going to break a 250-year precedent of never prosecuting former presidents, it better be over something pretty damn serious. This trash out of Manhattan does not even come close to meeting that standard.

And I mention the Epstein scandal because there is sufficient evidence that Trump did in fact sexually abuse an underage girl being trafficked by that POS, at least enough to warrant an investigation. And this actually would be a case that would legitimately destroy Trump politically. Everyone agrees child molestation is a horrific crime worthy of punishment, you have a clear victim who was physically harmed, and solid evidence and credible witnesses (unlike say E Jean Carroll). I do wonder why Dems have never tried going after Trump over that?

4D chess for Trump considering the judge is literally the one who will be sentencing him. Just amazing

There is no crisis, all of these constitutional questions, breaking of norms, lawsuits about how a current or former President can be prosecuted all have one thing in common, Trump is continuously criminal. He cheats at business, his taxes, he cheats charities, he steals money from his campaign, has no separation between his personal business and government business, tried to bribe foreign officials, lost an election fairly and tried to cheat Americans out of their vote by stealing the election with fake elector schemes and a riot, and Trump is very likely a sexual predator. The problem is Trump. Why doesn't anybody on the news say this, plainly. They treat him still with this weird legitimacy when he is quite simply a run of the mill crook and a person of incredibly low moral character.

Hochul pardoning Trump won’t increase national unity (and until Trump is gone, national unity won’t increase meaningfully because his cult appeal hinders against rationale thought) especially with other charges against him still pending. It’ll just be spun as belief that he’s innocent and increase pressure for other charges to be dropped.

Trump is going to get jail time, lack of remorse is a sentencing criteria.

Well he just broke the gag order, which is still in effect, said he's not allowed to say Cohen's name because of the gag order, but you know who I'm talking about, he's a sleezebag.

Absolutely disagree. This precedent is unjust and a dark stain on the US as a free country. We should have taken any opportunity to do away with it decades, if not centuries ago, and I couldn't care less what the charge was that finally broke it as long as the trial itself stood up to constitutional standards, which this one did. If Trump wanted to keep that norm in place, all he had to do was obey the law.
