Why hasn't the charges been released to the public yet?

On NBC, they're just running through the document on the air. A lot of charges are "falsifying business records".

All of them are, actually:

Those two aren't contradictory at all? He's staring his adversary in the eye.
I was talking about how you flip flop between liking Trump and not liking Trump.
I don't like Trump. I just think he's the best option we have.

You don't have to lie. You can say you want fascism because you're also a fascist. It's okay. We already know.
I'm a nationalist, not a fascist. I don't support authoritarian government for Americans. I support social libertarianism for citizens, and am anti-intervention/anti-foreign aid/anti-immigration/anti-free trade.
If you are a fascist, then I am a nativist.

Honestly, the charges are bit...underwhelming. He should still face accountability, of course.

But they really might be "weak sauce", to be honest.

Yeah, this is really disappointing.  It's just 34 of the exact same "falsifying business records" charge (presumably 34 times the same payment was recording in the record books) "with intent commit another crime and aid and conceal the commission thereof", with no indication what this other crime might be.

It reads pretty weak. I guess we’ll wait to see what these unspecified other crimes are and what the actual evidence is, though.

Given these charges and Alvin Bragg record of having being weak on far more serious offenses , I don’t know how the argument can be made that these weren’t politically motivated . The precedent this opens up is gonna ruin American politics for a while to come

Really quite hilarious to see everyone get up in arms about "weak charges" when that is what countless poor criminal defendants are subjected to in state prosecutors' offices everyday of the week. I am having some schadenfreude watching Trump get subjected to what unnamed thousands are everyday.

At this rate, even if he's acquitted it won't happen until after the 2024 election. Jury selection alone will take months.

The most important aspect of these charges are that it's the first time a president has ever been charged with a crime.  Someone had to break that barrier.  Now Merrick Garland and the others considering going after Trump can't use: "What would happen if we charged a president?"  "This has never happened before," "There could be chaos in the streets" etc. as excuses for not acting.  In this respect, Bragg has performed an invaluable service.

Yeah... no. Someone who gave constant gifts to the religious right, appointed countless Christo-authoritarian nut jobs to the courts and led numerous assaults on civil liberties and free speech is not a social libertarian. Trump is a social libertarian in his private life but not as a leader.

Well, that assumes a Democratic president is accused of similar wrongdoings, which I doubt. But even if, that would still justify an investigation or more. Politicans shouldn't be above the law, no matter whether there's a (D) or an (R) next to their name. Other corrupt officeholders like Blago were impeached and thrown in jail as well. France also arrested a former president not too long ago.

I mean presidents deal with grey areas all the time which could get them in trouble. I’m just very afraid of a precedent being created where every president gets prosecuted for Grey areas or technicalities when they leave office .

Also it would be one thing is Bragg was a tough on crime DA but he isn’t .
