It's not accurate to say that Florida was a swing state. Since 1980, Florida always votes on the right of the nation. But we could say that Florida was a light red state. Democrats could carry it when they had a large national popular vote margin, like in 1996, 2008, 2012.

But now I believe that Florida became a red state. Do you think that the democrats should still spend resources in Florida? They don't need this state in order to win the Electoral College.

Maybe, Florida will vote on the right of Texas in the next presidential elections. The kind of latin american who lives in Florida is on the right of the kind of latin american who lives in Texas.

In terms of R-D margins, it's a red state.  But, it's a different brand of Republican politics than that of a lot of the rest of the South.

I would agree with this.

It’s more comparable to Texas than it is to states that Republicans win by double digits.

In any event, Florida would be red leaning, but the urban areas and the substantial Jewish population in south Florida should provide a significant Democratic counterbalance.

However,  the utter incompetence of the state Democratic Party makes Florida much more Republican than it should be.

No, I don't think Florida is anything like the other southern states such as AL, AR, LA, MS, or TN. FL voted for Trump twice, but first by a margin of less than 2 pts and then second time by a margin of less than 3.5 pts. All those other southern states vote R by much larger margins than that. To me, FL is definitely still a swing state in presidential elections.

Yes.

Effective 2016: Florida has realigned, at least at the level of U.S. President, to the Republicans.

I wrote and posted a related thread here:

Much of what you see there … I could write and post here.

You can, if you are up for it, simply check it out.

It's not as red as the rest of the south but Dems probably have a better shot going forward in Texas. FL has a lot of growing red trending exurbs like Ft Myers, Daytona, Pasco, Polk that completely offset Dem gains in Orlando, Jacksonville metros.

The largest metro- Miami is also trending R. This is completely opposite of GA, VA, NC with Atlanta, DC, Charlotte moving sharply to the left.

Since the November 2022 Election Florida Republicans have added another 80,000 Voters. They now apparently have a 386,000 lead over FL Democrats.

Not as severe as Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, or Tennessee... yet.

Trump played up the Commie-baiting rhetoric in 2016 and 2020, which may have a limited lifespan of relevance. Yes, Florida keeps attracting reactionaries from elsewhere in the USA, perhaps because the other southeastern states aren't attractive enough.
