There is really no need to enshrine gun ownership in the constitution, which other country does this?

The Second Amendment is about the limits of federal power over state militia, no matter what activist hack right-wing members of the Supreme Court claim. Any individual right to bear arms would be under the Ninth Amendment.

Personally, I would like to see most firearms moved to Title II, and strict licensing requirements for ownership, and especially for carry. (If states want to make those "shall issue" and provide extensive public firearms training, that's fine with me. )

it seems like the second option should be broken down further.  'cause it seems to mean that you are fine with the second amendment AND you want more gun control, but could also be read as being pro 2nd and fine with the amount of gun control we have now.  Or would those people fall under option number the first?

For a uniformed, structured, well-disciplined militia, yes.

Otherwise, no.

I'll go one further and state that having a CONTITUTIONAL right to bear arms is absolutely insane and is why the US is in the terrible state it is with regards to gun violence.

If individuals should be able to own firearms, which I am against BTW, it should be regulated by regular law.

I support the second amendment, and I do believe background checks could help lessen mass shootings.

This idea is highly authoritarian, and very dangerous to a free society. Confiscating guns on a mass scale would make war a certainty, and rid the people of their most prominent check and balance if you were to do so successfully.

For a militia and private ownership rights, the right to self-defense, and some weapons, but I'd have to draw at the line at weapons of war being allowed into every single hand in the country.  The Second Amendment does not mean that the right of communities to protect law and order, and the public safety of their children, is non-existent.

I think that the 2nd Amendment should only apply to guns that existed around when the founding fathers wrote the Constitution. It doesn’t make much sense to apply it to guns that weren’t even a conception when the 2nd Amendment was written

Yes, that sounds similiar to the originalism philosophy that is espoused by conservative legal minds.  If you want to go based purely on the time in which they lived.  When writing the Second Amendment, they had no conception of what a 21st century assault weapon could do in just seconds.

I wonder if a liberal Supreme Court would uphold an assault weapon ban based on an "originalist" argument.

Despite my signature, I've actually been opposed to the second amendment for most of my life and believe it's been radicalized and taken way further than a well regulated milita by gun nuts in this country. IMO, we'd be best off with having the second amendment repealed and then passing a law giving people the right to handguns for self defense and long rifles with limited ammo for hunting.

All that being said, I don't live in that fairy-tale land I live in the real world, so with that in mind I think it's time for those of us with a different vision for this country to fight fire with, well, fire and utilize the second amendment for our own protection and self defense, including arming ourselves to blunt the inevitable wave of hate-filled Conservative violence that is rearing it's ugly head with the full backing and instigation of Conservative and especially 'alt-right' leaders.

Voted 2, but I'm broadly critical of almost all proposed policies coming from the pro-gun-control camp these days.

I do and I own guns.

What I do not own are any assault weapons. Those are not meant for everyday citizens nor does the Constitution empower us to own every type of gun and weapon.
