The view for this is essentially that a good chunk of the founding fathers were slave owners, racist, trashing the poor, abusing slaves or in some cases, possibly child predators (Jefferson).

What is your opinion?

Jefferson should for the Sally Hemmings stories alone. Washington probably should for being a prominent slave owner too.

I actually can't find anything immediately objectionable about Benjamin Franklin that would warrant canceling him.

Not cancelled, but their wrongdoings and fallibility should be talked about more often.

Giving this a recommend because I can't say I'm completely opposed to this.

And besides, 3/4s of the founding fathers were low profile figures.

That too. Those particular Founding Fathers just aren't important enough to warrant anyone bothering to cancel them.

That depends entirely on what you mean by the incredibly nebulous and vague term that is "cancelled"

If by "cancelled" you mean we should consider them to have literally no positive aspects whatsoever to their legacies then no, of course not.

If by "cancelled" you mean we should treat them like ordinary human beings and not deified perfect figures, and that we should stop covering up the negative aspects of their legacies, then yes.

George Washington literally signed a law that said only white people could become naturalized US citizens, which is among the most racist policies the United States has ever adopted. He also navigated incredibly difficult foreign policy and economic questions with a genuinely impressive amount of skill and insight.

We should teach the founders as the deeply complex and often self-contradictory people that they were in reality.

Jefferson should be cancelled but the Federalist which is today's English monarchy which are the Whigs Teddy Roosevelt was pro Environment like Prince William and Queen Victoria was very anti slavery why because the Whigs were Lawyers and believed in Judicial Review which said that Crts thru Federal Rights can nulified a state statute and Apartheid was a state statute, that was Nulified

The First case in Law School deals with Judicial Review, our Criminal Justice system deals with State rights but Civil Law thru Bankruptcy deals with Federal Statute trump state commerce clause

That's why creditors except for Student Loans don't really come after you for wage garnishment but Student Loans can come after you but they are now giving out Student Loans Discharge and if D's get Trifecta they will give us another 50 K they millionaires tax

A tendentious and immature question. Beyond that, one of my heroes, a most thoroughly modern man in almost all ways except accepting duels with slime, Alexander Hamilton, abhorred slavery and never owned any.

It's pretty much all that's talked about when they come up these days. I'm not sure how much more often their wrongdoings even can be talked about.

Fortunately. Obama and his ilk had the right idea - contextualize and build on this nation's founding fathers and their memory.

Is it just me, or does cancel culture seem to have peaked in the Trump administration? I don't hear a lot of people talking about tearing down the Lincoln Memorial anymore. The cultural revolution is off, for now.
