Was she sacked or what? Not a good move in my opinion if so.
Not clear at this point. Everyone's using the word "departure". Very reminiscent of Kwarteng's departure - Truss said he resigned, Kwasi said he was asked to go.

This is incredible stuff. I always knew - and said to everyone - that a Truss premiership would be really funny, but this endless rolling shitshow is beyond what I imagined.

If reports are true - not sure which part is more shambolic. Truss replacing two of the four ministers inhabiting the Great Offices of State within a week? Or Truss appointing Grant Shapps, a man who has spent the entirety of her premiership trying to bring her down, into the cabinet.

Surely two holders of Great Offices of State sacked less than fifty days into a premiership is a record?
Probably??? I mean, Truss has set so many ignoble records, it's quite hard to keep count...

Whatever the case, she's now sacked more ministers in a week, than May or Johnson did in their entire premierships. (May sacked Patel, Williamson - Johnson only sacked Mercer and Gove).

Braverman's Commons rhetoric about 'tofu eating wokerati' was 4chan teenage/Facebook uncle cringe. Not befitting any MP never mind the Home Secretary.

Good move by the Chancellor...

Sacking a minister for being mad is risky for Truss. There are half a dozen others in Cabinet who can't be trusted with sharp cutlery and up until now they'd been in her camp. Not certain that will continue to be true. The risk is that more letters will go in as a result of this than are withdrawn.

Suella Braverman was fired for two reasons, according to Sky News. We don't know the second. But apparently the first is that she accidentally shared confidential information via a private phone.

So this isn't her resigning to challenge Truss from the right, or fired for being inflammatory - she's probably just *very* incompetent.

Multiple sources are saying that Hunt, not Truss, made this decision.

It is lovely.

I mean, were economically f-ked

But the fact that the Tory brand, faux populism and anti-woke p-ss and economic libertarian w-nk is getting throughly trashed, somewhat contrary to recent European trends, is delightful.

It wasn't Hunt who decided to put Braverman in the cabinet in the first place. It was the unique mind of Liz Truss that handed the three most important cabinet offices to Kwasi Kwarteng, Suella Braverman, and James Cleverly.

Everything that happens now is just the chickens coming home to roost.

Looks like the pigf**ker caucus is firmly in control now. Wonder how the party membership will take this?

We have a resignation letter - and it spends as much time attacking Truss, and burnishing her own credentials as it does apologising.

She's probably already running to replace Truss.

Oh, I thought you were referring to the decision to fire her (which was definitely Hunt's lol) & not initially appoint her, my b

So sacked over a technicality, will be putting the boot in from the outside.

Hunt as puppet master is not going to work.

Agree with you there - sounds like the ERG are not taking this well. The word that keeps getting thrown around is "incandescent". There's definitely a sense amongst her allies that this was a manufactured crisis, to pivot to the centre.

As I said yesterday (or the day before? hard to tell the difference at this point), responding to massive unpopularity due in part to a perceived legitimacy void by instituting shadow rulers and secret masters was never going to work.

So, Jeremy Hunt has obviously outranked Liz Truss in the de-facto hierarchy since being "appointed" Chancellor but will Grant Shapps now outrank the Prime Minister too or will she be allowed to maintain the shred of dignity preserved by not being bossed around by, well, Grant Shapps?

Oh - man. It’s not even a done deal.

Shapps might have the entire Truss premiership in the palm of his hand.
