I was really hoping she could make it to 100, but either way she's lived a long, fulfilling life.

Some people are noting that the Royal Standard (the flag flown wherever the Queen happens to be in residence) doesn't appear to be flying over Balmoral and is being mistaken for the Lion Rampant (the Royal Banner of Scotland).

Charles is at Balmoral at the moment, right? If she died the monarch is still there.

It might be that both or one are somewhere else on the estate (which is quite vast) rather than in the Castle.

Liz Truss is a dreadful person to lead the UK through a moment like this (or potential).

Major, Blair, Cameron … hell even May and Johnson would be better. And of course Starmer could be

There's definitely going to be a spike today in people learning for the first time that when George V was on his deathbed, his doctor gave him a lethal overdose of morphine and cocaine in order to ensure his death would occur in time to make it into the morning newspapers.

I do find it odd that the showrunners would choose to have the Queen die just as the "PM Truss" story arc gets going. I wonder if it is a sign that they don't expect Liz Truss to improve ratings and so have opted for something "bigger" to improve viewership.

The story arcs and angles have been becoming increasingly far-fetched and confusing since the debut of Tory Time in 2010 but this takes the cake. Hopes were high after the 2019 season that programming would return to normality but that clearly didn't happen.

The showrunners have indicated that the show will remain on the air until at least 2024, which leaves two more seasons, but after the 2024 season with its general election storyline, there will be calls to cancel the show. A sequel named Labour Land could then potentially take its place and boost viewership.

Truss being so green also complicates the massive logistical effort that the Queen's state funeral will be.  I imagine No. 10 is calling back key Johnson staffers (who would be more familiar with/have rehearsed the plans) in anticipation of having to pull it off very soon.

Not Johnson. And it's fairly clear that she would not have wanted that: it's an open secret that there hasn't been a PM as personally detested by Brenda and the rest of them as he was (and, bluntly, for several good reasons).

Would make sense. By that time all of the family will be at Balmoral. I can imagine that they would like to be together once the news comes out.

That's when the BBC is gonna restart coverage isn't it? Seems like we may get a formal announcement then. I wonder if Prince Charles is gonna take on a new regnal name.

Two drug dealers from distal parts of the empire have arrived at Balmoral bearing ceremonial offerings of cocaine and heroin for the traditional royal speedball. This ritual has been practiced by every monarch since King George V, and Her Majesty is prepared to fulfill her duty.

On the other hand, she liked Wilson in particular from what some have said.

HM was a regular reader of political gossip to the extent that she use to get a Government whip to send her a daily summary of events in Parliament- who was up, who was down and who spoke well.

I take some joy in knowing that despite her constitutional role she would have watched those events with an arched eyebrow.

She has had an interesting relationship with PMs- the most powerful and presidential were generally the ones she disliked the most- Blair and Thatcher and ofc Bojo. All were in different ways decidedly against conserving the established way.

Her personal favourite was Harold Wilson.

That's not surprising. Given what she has said about the Royal Family, and the antipathy they have for her, her presence would not be welcome.

The death of the monarch use to lead to a general election.

The last time that happened was 1837 when William IV died.  (There were two elections in 1910, but neither had anything to do with the death of Edward VII.)
