Coffey is Health Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister as expected.

Thérèse Coffey; more than one writer is going to forget the accents, that's for sure. When was the last time we had a Cabinet minister with accents in their name?

Michelle Donelan has been made Culture Secretary. Guess she’ll get to be in the Cabinet for more than 24 hours after all! She’s got to be one of the unquestioned upgrades because, after Dorries, the only way is up.

Uhh… so where does this put Dorries?

JFC.  But at least that's a way to send her off into irrelevance.

Side note - for the first time ever, none of the four great offices of state is occupied by a white man.

Already came out during the hustings. Breezed over by the same people who chastised Corbyn for similar sentiments.

(Mind you, Corbyn didn't exactly work hard to dispel those perceptions)

It's amazing how robotic Liz Truss' speaking style is, she makes Theresa May look positively charismatic. It's crazy that she was allowed to get this far.

I think in a list of embarrassing things that could come out about Liz Truss, that's pretty low down.

Has to be said this cabinet could have been even worse, though equally that could also be the best thing about it. Braverman and JRM stand out as the "mainly there to trigger the lefties" picks.

(though in the latter case at least, one more optimistic interpretation is that energy - and maybe also climate change - is mostly going to be dealt with by number 10 and he is just a "loyal" retainer)

Aye - I mean, we live in a world where this Daily Mail photoshoot exists:

And that's something she signed off on. If any of the rumours floating around about interdepartmental discussions are true, the Mirror and Guardian are going to be printing a salacious headline or two in the next couple of years.

Strange number of Twitter cultists shouting about libel and exciting themselves with talk of legal action. Not like anything's untrue. The "it was a one-off mistake!" excuses are very funny in hindsight.

The leadership campaign has quite seriously lowered my opinion of the British right, who I used to think would have the good sense to reject Truss. Not only are most of them little more than the 'intolerant liberals' they decry their enemies as, the social conservatives among them have thrown themselves into enthusiastic support of someone who left the Lib Dems because they weren't approved as a candidate fast enough.

Wait, so how many affairs has she had, that we know of?  She had one with Mark Field in 2004-05 when he was an MP but she wasn't yet.  And now rumors with Kwasi Kwarteng.  Who else?

Apart from a couple of faux social conservative MPs, I don't see much enthusiasm for Truss among non-liberal Tory members. That's probably why she didn't do so well in the membership vote. She was lucky she was up against Sunak.

Oh is that why she defected when she did? I had always wondered what on Earth was behind that: not many people joined the Conservative Party after being a member of a different party in 1996 of all years!

Allegedly she discussed issues concerning Uganda with various staffers and bag-carriers at times as well.

Lol I hate the monarchy but there is more than enough evidence that Truss doesn't care about people.

She’s older than Blair and Cameron were at the time, and almost as old as Major was.

What evidence? Your personal guts, the fact that she is a conservative?

Also, "i hate the monarchy but..." really doesn't sound like you hate the monarchy. The "but" indicates you don't care about it as an issue which at the end is the same as being in favour of the monarchy.
