2 left-wing candidates ran for president of the Student Federation of Universidad de Chile in 2011.
One candidate was Gabriel Boric, law student, member of the Autonomous Left. He innaugurated today as the president of Chile.
The other candidate was Camila Vallejo, geography student, member of the Communist Party. She is the Secretary of Government of Boric's government now.
The actual result in 2011 was
Gabriel Boric: 4053 votes
Camila Vallejo: 3864 votes

I found a BBC article (in Spanish) written in 2011 about this election https://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias/2011/12/111207_camila_vallejo_derrotada_jgc

Vallejo seems to be the Chilean AOC. Same looks, about the same age and similar beliefs, presentation and attitude.

Vallejo, she has always been more capable and pragmatic, even as a student leader. The student movement from 2012 onwards was a continuous attempt at recreating the magic of 2011 without success.

Boric also was an absolutely insufferable ideological purist at the time (and until very recently) with that typical holier than thou attitude.

How the things changed...

In the media in 2011, we could read that Boric was on the left of Vallejo. In 2022, mainstream media portrays Boric as the moderate hero of the Latin American left.
