People taking victory laps about Juicy going to jail are just as tiresome as the people who mindlessly promoted his ridiculous hoax.

No. Actions have consequences and this ought to be even more the case for the wealthy and well-connected elite, not less so.

A random person who wasted police time on a hate crime hoax would most likely not have been ordered to pay $200k in restitution to the city.

I don't particularly care about him especially as I didn't even know who he was prior to this. If anything I'm amused by how laughably absurd his claim was. The main reason I'm paying attention at all is just how bizarre the people who defend him are or who do feel sorry for him. They're like Andrew Cuomo truthers.

No, but I feel sorry for the people who believed him in the beginning.

Only in the sense that I think he needs psychological help. His courtroom antics this week showed that.

I think it just shows he has Trump-like levels of narcissism.

Jessie Smolett is a twisted scumbag whose crime cost taxpayers lots of money,  but where he turned out to be the victim of his own crime.

If I were the Judge,  I would have suspended his jail sentence so long as he admitted what he did and that it was inexcusable, and that he reimburse Chicago for the investigation costs.  He could do some kind of Probation; he's doing that anyway.   That way we could see what Smolett is really made of.  His conduct in Court was that of a Cell Warrior; the guy who talks tough when he's locked away from his adversary.   I would have liked to have seen what Smolett would have done if "Jail or No Jail" depended on a sincere admission and apology.

Agreed, though I have little patience for the (discouragingly large number of) people who continued believing him after it became obvious that it was a hoax.
