...how many people would be upset? Like would a lot of atheists be angry over it? Or would most Democratic atheists be fine with this "deal"?

It would be an improvement, mainly because of the latter.

"Triggering the atheists" has quickly become yet another stale BRTD thread topic.

Most white democrats don’t give two thoughts about a politicians religion. Would anyone care if any senator converted religion?

But what if they then also became a hardcore emo fan and was like yelling the lyrics of emo "songs" on the Senate floor? Then what huh?

If only Texas hadn't voted for Ted Cruz in 2018 and we could've had that.

That'd be awesome. I care more about a politician's policy stances than their religious affiliation.

I'd just be happy that atheism wasn't represented entirely by Sinema's BS.

Yes, the atheists who exist solely in your imagination would be quite upset.

As a bisexual atheist wine mom myself, Sinema is horrible representation.

...you still want to claim this after like claiming Andrew Cuomo deadenders don't exist and being disproved?

r/atheism is not imaginary. You can easily find atheists like that there.

BRTD you seem to have this assumption that part and parcel of being an atheist is having an attitude that people of faith (or at least those who believe Jesus has supernatural aspects) are brain dead superstitious idiots who can't reason their way out of a paper bag. Heal thyself.

Another way to put it is that not all atheists are clones of John Dule, fine chap that he is, but apparently had some encounters with the sacred that left their mark on him, or something. In fact atheists may be as diverse a group as well, Christians. Don't box us in, please. Thanks.

The majority who aren't Republicans would prefer this. A better question would be how OP would feel if Warren became an atheist but denounced the term "Latinx."

I promise you that most atheists are generic/progressive Democrats and would gladly take the trade of having Sinema become a Christian who votes with the Democrats more often.

And if you're going to use a very very small but vocal minority to use as a group to attack, then why even bother having a discussion?

If I say "nobody thinks Canada doesn't really exist", you don't have to go out of your way to find a blog post from 2006 or a tweet with twelve likes to "disprove" what I said.

If Atheist Elizabeth Warren also said we shouldn't be involved in Syria, that's all it would take for BRTD to call her a tankie.

Yeah I imagine this is what most Democrats would think unless they are really atheist or something. They don't have a problem with the 45+ liberal but religious Democratic senators, while just 8% approve of an atheist centrist Democrat, so that's your answer.

My reputation as a militant atheist on this site has been grossly exaggerated. I would be the last person to yell at Nathan or someone similarly intelligent and tolerant for their beliefs. I just have little patience for the Jesusposting some of our other Christian posters engage in.

Fair enough, and one of my naughty little pleasures is my savoring of your sometimes quite poisonous pen. Please don't tell anyone.
