Both are correct. The politician I shook hands with was Mayor Dennis Tyler of Muncie, who got his house raided by the FBI after accepting bribes. My dad was a sports writer for the local newspaper at one point, and Pence was being interviewed by them while he was in congress, thus the awkward elevator ride.

Correct - it's number 2. My mother used to have dogs as pets as a kid, but we've not gotten one. I do like dogs but personally, I myself would be the first to admit the responsibility would probably not be something I'd be willing to take up. Maybe as an adult I'll consider getting a dog, but currently it's unfeasible and not happening (and I'm hardly clamouring for it to, either, as I said already).
