All memes aside, in absolute seriousness, his heart was 100% in the right place but his efforts were pretty misguided in a practical sense. Not saying there's anything morally wrong with terrorism as a means to end a historical evil like slavery - by all means, if that's what it takes, go for it - just that in this particular case it was clearly not an effective method of achieving his goals.

Agreed with Antonio. Brown was a delusional person, very delusional, crazy crazy guy. His plan was very foolish. But he was RIGHT on the fundamental questions of the day and he was RIGHT about what it would take to root out slavery.

The fact that you guys are still upset over losing a war that took place over 150 years ago is beyond pathetic . Like I said it’s ironic how despite being on opposite sides of the political spectrum you come to the same conclusion as SJW about the United Stated and that is both you guys think the US is evil even if you came to that conclusion in widely different ways .

His ideas were obviously absolutely correct and commendable, but his execution was frankly self-defeating.

I could hypothetically fly to Libya or somewhere in Asia on a quest to play Rambo and end present day slavery, but if I ‘accidentally’ ended up murdering innocent sweatshop factory employees (like John Brown’s raid ‘accidentally’ ended up killing atleast two slaves), I’d be considered a well-intentioned imbecile at best, and a terrorist at worst.

I’d overall state that I have a very nuanced view of him, but it leans towards the negative side. I prefer individuals like Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman when it comes to abolitionist figures, who also happened to be in good terms with John Brown.

Both were traitorous individuals who had admirable characteristics about them.

Also, the union had to be preserved at all costs no matter the size of the receipt. That is the correct way to look at this, speaking as an another proud Southerner myself.
