I actually kind of think we should implement a ban on face masks (with exceptions for religious belief) outside of medical facilities once we get back to early summer numbers.  As long as we see even a minority of people in masks, some people aren't going to psychologically be ready for normalcy.

Illinois' hospitalizations have been on a near-uninterrupted decline for over a month, and about 55% of residents are fully vaccinated ... sorry, but that's really all that should be looked at.

(Not to mention any "statewide" metric that affects every corner of IL should hardly ever be considered a serious proposal ... even the Governor's "Regions" thing isn't tailored enough.)

At this point, it is basically a concession to the unvaccinated — fully vaccinated people are required to wear masks in order to tamp down on spread and allow the unvaccinated to continue to avoid the consequences of their lifestyle choices. This is what I suspect as well. Mask-wearing seems to be strongly correlated with political identification as well. Anecdotally, from my job, all of the people who I've seen still wearing Trump gear, or at least Republican or right-leaning gear or clothes, are unmasked, while those who I've seen wearing Democratic or left-leaning gear or clothes are masked.
