Will 2022 be Newsom vs. R or Newsom vs. D?

Who might Newsom face in 2022, a House Republican who gets drawn out?

You think CA-GOV and/or CA-SEN in 2022 will be D vs. D?

Might Paffrath make the 2022 runoff if he does well in the replacement election?

Might it mean that Paffrath might face Newsom in November of 2022?

Could Paffrath finish second in the 2022 primary?

Voted yes, but I refuse to give a semi-confident answer until I know what the field of candidates will look like.

If this recall is any indication, his opponents are very vocal. So yes.

I doubt any serious Democrat will run, especially since there wasn't serious Democrat that ran in the recall.

Faulconer has already declared for '22, assume it'll be him vs Newsom.

It won't matter anyways, Newsom is just as likely to lose as Greg Abbott

Will 2022 be Newsom vs. R or Newsom vs. D?

Almost certainly Newsom vs. R because no highprofile Dem announces a challenge, so none will overcome the 1st place voter getter among GOP candidates.

There will be a bunch of registered Dems running, but neither will get above 3-4% due to the lack of name recognition and campaign ressources (which is particulary difficult in a state as large as CA).

Usually close to 30 candidates run in the primary. A candidate could get less than 10% and still finish second. Will any serious Republican run?

As many others have said already Kevin Faulconer is already in for 2022. I think he will face Newsom. Newsom's agreeing to sign Calcare into law if it passed has consolidated most of the progressives around him so if a D runs against Newsom it will likely be from the right. The only chance I see of Newsom not facing a republican is if a bunch of Reps gets in like Faulconer Cox Jenner Kiley and Elder again splitting the republican vote and Newsom just gets one serious Dem challenger (IDK Villaraigosa, or Paffrath maybe?) and even then I think it would be hard for them to get like 10% of the vote. So yeah id say the chance Newsom faces a Republican in 2022 is pretty damn high.
EDIT: Just checked Wikipedia and Paffrath is already in for 2022. still doubt he'll get more than 5 points in the open primary lol the only reason he's getting as much support as he is in the recall is he's the only "serious" Dem running in question 2.

I’m not sure there’s any serious Republicans in the race for the recall let alone 2022. They might take themselves seriously or try to make people think that they are, but they really aren’t serious people.

I thought Faulconer would get more votes from Democrats than from Republicans. Let's see how Paffrath does in the recall replacement vote first.

Will the CAGOP collapse so much that Newsom will face another Democrat?

If Elder is running in 2022, he will likely be the nominee.

Easy win for Newsom, Cox or Elder will get 40%. They don't have anyone but Elder, but I rather have Steyer or Villigosa run than NEWSOM
