Sanders has offered some criticism of the bill; cited CBO assessment that it wouldn’t do much to reduce inflation. ET is cross.

Many politicians, especially United States senators, get very frustrated when they aren’t the center of attention.

He’s most likely offering criticism to make the case for various amendments, but I expect all of them to fail.

Can't believe I am agreeing with Bernie on a piece of economic policy and a socialist is against new spending

He just doesn’t think it goes far enough, he doesn’t agree with you lol.

He’ll vote for it anyway so whatever, he can soapbox all he wants. Would be nice if he could not be an annoying contrarian for once though.

Fairly unlikely any amendments get through, then, except for maybe on some niche GOP + left issues.

This was always true
If knows this then why is he also sticking to making everything go through reconciliation?
Just kill the damn filibuster and we wouldn’t have to do this dumb parliamentarian dance.

Did Republicans complain in 2017 about how the TCJA was a crappy half-measure because it didn't abolish the IRS or the income tax and didn't abolish the ACA or privatize Social Security? No!

This is the problem with the Democratic caucus - they make any victory seem like an embarrassing defeat because they can't handle getting anything less than every single thing they ever wanted right now.

I regret voting for Sanders in the 2016 primary.

Honestly there were no good options in that primary:

- Clinton had serious integrity questions and is way too hawkish on foreign policy
- Sanders is a socialist who doesn't even consider himself to be a Democrat and is mostly focused on his own personal agenda
- O'Malley was a mediocre at best governor who legit jerked off to raising taxes. His handpicked successor lost to a previously unknown Republican in one of the most democratic states in the nation
- Webb is a republican in all but name
- Chafee is a literal meme candidate with no coherent ideology at all

This bill is only to get D's thru the midterms, they say they are trying to net thé H and win 4 Sen seats WI, PA, FL or NC and OH, everyone knows that we can't offer the whole BBB with a tied Senate

I regret voting for Sanders in the 2016 primary.

It's just virtue signaling. He's going to propose a bunch of amendments that'll get about forty votes each and then vote party-line to pass the bill.

Dems are letting the GOP have a mostly unopposed debate period - aside from Durbin briefly appearing to move the usual evening list of noncontroversial bills and resolutions (the equivalent of suspensions in the House), Jeff Merkley is the only Dem who has spoken since the vote to proceed passed, everyone else who has spoke is in the GOP. Not entirely sure this is the wisest political move, even if it gets us to vote-a-rama quicker.

Merkley doesn't quite say he will vote against any amendment proposed, but he does say he won't be calling up any himself. Could mean Sanders will be the only (technical) D to offer anything.
