Source is Politico.

I'll be honest, even I'm wondering what is still in the reconciliation bill at this point. All the big ticket items seem to be cut already. Is it just a pile of tax credits to encourage green energy and investment? To be fair, if the tax credit for electric vehicles is good enough I'll buy one myself.

Childcare and Pre K survive. Which is surprising.

Yeah Manchin is out of his mind. What is even in the bill now? Isn't this  bill  supposed to reshape the social safety net I'll? Yeah right.

One of those two should be dropped in favour of paid leave.

Bernie should leverage his pivotal vote to block anything that he doesn’t approve of, as should Warren, Brown, Baldwin, etc

My Dad gets 2 or 3 weeks combined paid time off. Sick leave and vacation combined. Which is very very meager. So if he gets sick, he has to use up his PTO if it wasn't for California's Paid family leave program ( Thank god for that ).

Is it possible this is making room for Medicare expansion?

I am serious when I saw Bernie should vote down this bill if it's a glorified BIF.

At this point I wouldn't be mad.

Biden clearly has his shortcomings, but there's just no leverage. FDR and LBJ could depend on some bipartisan support, they didn't need to contend with the modern corporate media landscape, and they could wield primaries as a realistic threat.

Apparently other Dem senators (not just Manchinema) crushed the billionaires tax... but like I think it's only Manchin who's torpedoing paid family leave and medicare expansion

Someone tell me what’s really in this bill that the average American will feel and notice?

I hope it fails. I really really do.

Child care and paid leave are the only two things Americans would really notice.

I don’t give a sh**t about the climate BS. That’s only helpful if every country in the world takes similar action

Literally everyone in the USA would benefit from the infrastructure bill. Even the people who ride helicopters around still need airports and helipads to be maintained.

But wait, that's the part that's being held hostage and almost forgotten by now due to Democratic infighting. Oh well.

That's an awful attitude, climate change doesn't suddenly go from ok to terrible, it's a spectrum and every point of a degree of warming that doesn't happen is a great benefit to humanity. America is a major emitter and it has a duty to take action. Plus, why would other countries do their part if America doesn't? You have a responsibility to provide global leadership.

Appears Pelosi may call up bipartisan infrastructure for a vote tomorrow even if it's not 100% clear it has a plurality. Dare progressives/moderate Rs to actually vote No and let transportation funding expire and/or twist arms right on the floor to make it pass.

It's a very big time crunch with tomorrow being the last legislative day before old transportation funding expires, and of course the fact that McAuliffe's victory could quite literally depend on something passing before voters go to the polls.
Why the hell is Pelosi whipping on behalf of Manchin and Sinema?

As soon as this passes, any agreement they might reach is dead.

She doesn't agree with that view, a solid framework is enough to remove the hold on the BIF as she sees it. And removing said hold may be a requirement for McAuliffe to win.

That's how most countries do it though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parental_leave Literally all countries do it through a social insurnace system. I actually think it works better that way, because people feel onwership of their own benefits if they pay into the system, that they worked so hard for like with social security and Medicare.

I genuinely think Manchin has disdain for the working/middle class and poor people. He's a total reaganite
