The hype is real

Trump likes him and he seems to be the only person Trump would endorse outside his family. He governs as a moderate and is an elected official so that statfys most of the GOP. And he is from a swing state who won with support from minorities

Did he?  Gillum won both the hispanic and black vote.
He didn't win majorities of the minority vote, but he won enough of them for him to win. At least, that seems to be what Motorcity is arguing.

2022 will be the real test of his minority appeal. His numbers in Dade will be very interesting to see.
2022 might not be an objective test after all, due to incumbency. Incumbency helps in gubernatorial elections more often than not. Though this might not necessarily be true in Florida...

I tilted it towards DeSantis, but Crust says he is running for Gov not for Senate and he is the only one that can beat DeSantis, DeSantis isn't popular with AA that's why he almost lost to Gillam and Crist have connections to Cuban community.

It's 600 days til Election and Crist is only down 11 not 30 pts, DeSantis can lose.

This is a 50 state campaign not 278 like Rs want the Ds to believe they can't crack IA, OH, FL

I don’t think anyone really thought anyone but Hillary or Biden would be the 2016 democratic nominee in 2012

Definitely a real thing. Take it seriously. He’s going to be tough to beat next year. Here in central Florida, it already feels like people are wanting him to run in 2024. He’s definitely got widespread support whether he deserves it or not. A Trump endorsement would send him flying into first place overnight. That is for sure.

Every poll has DeSantis as a front runner in 2024 if Trump is taken out.

It is not a meme.

Charlie Crist is all but in for the Gubernatorial Elections, Cubans like Crist, it's 20 mnths til the next Election, never say never in politics

I don't ever want to hear DeSANTIS after 2022, but will hear Rubio

DeSantis is going to win by double digits on 2022 lol

I really don't think he's a particularly strong campaigner, regardless of whatever broad appeal he may have across the various groups of extremely engaged Republicans. Most Americans don't know who he is and I don't think he'll do a great job introducing himaelf. He strikes me as a terrible retail politician and somewhat socially awkward. If he wins the nomination, it'll be because he was uniquely positioned to consolidate an underwhelming field, not because Middle America has a deep and abiding love for Ron DeSantis.

Today, he is, but the Election is 600 days from now, don't underestimate Crist

You can also believe whatever you want but he will have an opponent that has at least a 1/3 chance of winning.

The Rs aren't giving up on MI, PA or WI Gov eventhough we have a 2/3 chance if winning those

This isn't a 278 map, it's a 50 state strategy we won IA, OH, FL, NC in 2008/12, we will win them again, DeSANTIS barely beat Gillium, when he has a real opponent he will struggle just like if he went against Graham, he will struggle against Crist

So will Baker in 600 days not today or tomorrow

What is it with Florida and electing Republicans in the Broader Autistic Phenotype?

A 10 pt lead is nothing in 600 days from now, we have lots of time for Charlie Crist to catch up in polls, if we go by leads Scott Brown whom was leading Shaheen and Beauprez whom was leading Hickenlooper would have won in 2014

Crist is not Andrew Gillium, I realize that this forum has a fascination with DeSantis, but Ds wanted DeSANTIS defeated in 2018, now they agree with Rs, except me, that CRIST' whom is running is gonna lie down, just like nd Amy Acton, which won't be the case

Biden has a net Approvals of 54 and we have to expand battleground so Rs don't win the House

DeSantis has a small mythology among facebook conservaboomers that he's best friends with Trump, prevented fraud in 2020, kept Florida open amidst the lockdown panic, shuts down uppity reporters and frustrates the Biden admin to no end. There's a pic that's been shared by my (NC and PA) relatives and other area conservatives of DeSantis telling Biden to go f-ck himself over the phone when Biden demands he be referred to as the president. On the flip side my Romney-Biden uncle said DeSantis is one of the only sane people left in the GOP as he recognizes climate change and isn't corrupt like Trump.
Personal anecdote obviously but I'd say DeSantis has atleast a good name built up already. It's not like Josh Hawley whose hype is very online and his ideas aren't admittedly that appealing to most #populist Republicans. I remember seeing a poll that more dems have heard of him then 'pubs. If Trump isn't in the mix I'd DeSantis he beats Don Jr. or any other name handily. The general is another thing altogether however.

It can't be real as long as Trump is the inevitable prospective nominee. If Trump declines to run for some reason, then it may turn out to be real. I guess it just depends on how DeSuckass can remain prolific in continuing to be corrupt and petty, as a diet Trump figure, when the pandemic ends.

DeSantis have to prove in 2022 that he can beat someone other than Andrew Gillium whom was a D socialist like James Harrison, if he beats Cist fine, but the Election is 600 days from now, this forum is so fascinated by another R that gives tax cuts to the riches Americans, DeSantis has done nothing to help the poor

The hype is real, but there is one problem for him that doesn't exist for almost every other GOP candidate, and it is that there is plenty of room for high-profile, inescapable failure of governance on his part. The biggest instance here is a FL pension crisis, which an ageing population and Rick Scott's governance have sowed the seeds for. If the dam breaks in DeSantis' first or second term, it could take the wind out of his sails.

What people need to understand is this: Republican presidents have been racist since Nixon.

Before Trump, Republican presidents have been using dog whistle.

Trump replaced a dog whistle with a blow horn.

That is what excites the Republican base.

_________________________________________________________________________

DeSantis has only been subtlety racist, so DeSantis is going to have a hard time generating the same excitement among the base.

_________________________________________________________________________

Racism isn't just a side effect of the modern Republican Party: it's the main feature.

3 years to go, but I think, DeSantis is the real deal.
- probably likely gets Trump's endorsement, if Trump doesn't run and doesn't die.
- FL
- did seemingly moderately well on corona overall.
- did seemingly very well on school re-openings. I expect, that Florida [poor] kids will do much better in coming years than theirs counterparts from other states, for example CA. But it depends on how well NyT, WaPo and CNN will be able to muddle the water defending Dems throwing kids under the bus.
