Turning a race that should be likely/Safe R into a competitive race... but then again it's Ohio lmao

Bold to assume this isn't a selling point for his voters...

Trump 2016 got more votes than Biden 2020.

Democrats have absolutely zero shot here, which sucks since Tim Ryan is great. Josh Mandel is going to be an awful Senator.

It sucks that Tim Ryan's gonna lose by like 8+ points, he's really great.

I actually think Mandel is seriously misreading the Republican electorate if he thinks this is the stuff he needs to go all in with excessive, performative, and hilariously unnatural-sounding/insincere pandering. It’s like he just read a transcript of Pat Buchanan's 1992 RNC speech and thought "yes, Pat Buchanan talked about culture wars, and culture wars are what propelled Trump to the presidency, so this is what my party's base wants to hear in the year 2022."

He’s just not very good at this, and I’m even less confident about him winning the R primary now. I mean, "Judeo-Christian values"? Seriously?

Oh I completely disagree, this is exactly what the Republican electorate wants to hear IMO.

Mandel is not leading by that much in polling and most of the other candidates are catching up. I have no idea why you think he has a lock on the nomination.

Because he's like the perfect representation of what the GOP base wants, and Vance is a complete phony.

It's shameful. Ohio Democrats in 2022 and 2024, if Brown is likely to lose, needs to go to the drawing board and see what they did right in 2006 and 2008.

2006 and 2008 were Democratic wave years.

2022 is going to be a Republican wave year, and 2024 will be neutral at best.

I wish Ryan wasn't DOA because he's perfect for the state.

It really is a shame that the national environment basically makes it impossible for Tim Ryan to win... he's pretty great on the issues and all of the Republicans are completely insane.

I don't think a letter from the Ohio establishment will change his mind. The only thing that could possibly affect his thinking is that laughably fake poll Mandel pushed out today that Trump could take seriously.
He needs to endorse soon though; early voting has already begun for nearly a week now.

I imagine those who are waiting for Trump's endorsement would just vote in-person, no?

I've also said before that I feel many posters on here wish that this would be a one-party country, with Democrats, and only Democrats, holding political power.

As long as the elections were free and fair, what’s wrong with this?

Ohio-senate is solid R with any Republican nominee not named Josh Mandel. Stop kidding yourselves.

I really don't get the argument that Mandel is a weaker candidate.

Establishment Republicans have such contempt for their voters. In Josh Mandel's case, his performance art is a projection of what he thinks his base acts like and thinks like. He thinks they're stupid, and I'm guessing most Republicans in Washington would privately agree.

Yeah I feel like establishment Republicans are bitter over the trend of non-college whites shifting to them/college-whites shifting to the Dems because they despise them, even though it's an electoral benefit for them.

Dumb question, what is the legal mechanism if a non-existent person won a write-in election?

This is legitimately so atrocious it has to be some kind of paperwork quirk or error, right?
It's first quarter.. i.e before he was the nominee.

That doesn’t make that number any better
It's a poor number, but obviously it's not reflective of his fundraising during the general campaign which the tweet was trying to suggest.. he was languishing in single digits during the primary before trump endorsed him.. which this fundraising period covers.

I work in campaign fundraising… even for someone in that position, that’s atrocious.

It’s a shame this wasn’t in a Dem friendly year. This would be a Dem pickup.

I always liked Ryan even when people were calling him stale and bland. Not to mention Vance is a POS

Yeah, on paper this is pretty much an ideal race for the Ohio Democrats - moderate-ish Democrat with a proven track record and working class support vs a Republican who is a complete phony and backed by Peter Thiel.

If this were even a neutral cycle, I'd probably say that Ryan has the advantage.

It sucks that the national environment will pull Vance over the finish line.

Safe R. It's not getting any better for Ryan from here on out.

Safe R is ridiculous, that's reserved for states like Wyoming or Idaho.

If you want to call it Likely R, fine, but Safe R? Especially when Vance has been doing everything wrong and Ryan has been doing everything right, it's somewhere between Lean R and Likely R.
