Oh boy, this is looking increasingly awful.

Amazing how basically ~50-55% of Japanese voters will vote for the incumbent government every election no matter what, and the rest don't even bother coalescing around the main alternative. At this point it might be the only non-sham democracy where no one is ever in the mood to throw the rascals out.

LDP-Komeito have surpassed the 233 mark in the official count.

NHK updated projection has LDP winning 234-253 seats.

Any data about CDP? They could win less seats than the 109 they currently have.

LDP wins Okinawa 3rd.  Big upset.  There were talk of local businesses interests shifting their support to LDP this time.  That seems to be true.

This is increasingly looking like a good night for the LDP.

it feels as if the turnout has done almost nothing to help the CDP, and might have even been a hinderence.

The LDP going "Communist Communist Communist" looks likeliest as a reason for this if it happens.

CDP bombed in Aichi.  Even worse than I thought. The Rengo JCP factor is quite salient it seems.

NHK called this seat for LDP.

NHK also called against both Ishihara brothers (Tokyo 3rd, 8th)

it wouldn't be a tie, pretty sure only approx. vote totals are used before counting is completely done for a city, which is when the exact vote totals are known.

Oh boy, this is looking increasingly awful.

Ichirō Ozawa losing after fifty two years counts as a silver lining even if it's an LDP gain. Wicked, evil man.

Lots of dirty old bastards got stomped this election, both from the LDP and opposition. It does feel like a "generational change" election more than a "punish LDP" one.

Good ol Naoto Kan has won for a 15th time, beating back a concerted LDP effort to defeat him.

This would not be surprising, Hyogo is good territory for Ishin of course.
