They changed one word in their national anthem ("young" to "one"); you are making it sound like they changed to a totally different song.

I'm ashamed to admit I sometimes have trouble distinguishing the US Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Star Spangled Banner.  Why so many goddamn things?  (I served in the military, too.  lulz.  I remember raising my right hand at MEPs and taking an oath to the Constitution.  What is that thing?)

But to answer the question, yes.   They're all way too white.   Imagine having imported slaves build your country, and not even incorporating African beats in your national hymns.

Yes, I think the national anthem should be Ran Kan Kan.

It should remain The Star Spangled Banner, but only Jimi Hendrix's rendition of it.

This would also solve vitoNova's complaint that it's too White.

I don't mind the lyrics at all, the tune is hideous.

We just need to start using the third and fourth verses more:

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave![51]

It should really be "America the Beautiful": it celebrates the country's beauty rather than a battle in a long-ago, generally forgotten war, and it even mentions God!

Battle Hymn of the Republic (Nightcore) would be a good choice.

Slavery shouldn’t be in an anthem of a country that hasn’t had it in over 150 years.

Slavery is still present and legal in the United States.

I remember the fourth verse from the Sum of All Fears.  Pretty good rendition and more powerful than the usual first verse.

True, the 13th amendment exception. In the sense of giant plantations like the Old South had though, that is long dead.

Guy Picciotto should write a replacement.

Should but that's unlikely since by all accounts he's why Fugazi can't get back together and Ian MacKaye is totally for it (hence why Ian was still touring in bands and had one planned for his latest that was cancelled by Covid.) So Ian is more likely. Although Guy was recently interviewed by the Washed Up Emo podcast and still seemed pretty interested in the whole scene he helped spawn.

Why just those two? If we were gonna change it, should be America the Beautiful.
