I don’t necessarily believe this but it is interesting how much of a drastic shift this is from the CNN/WAPO polls.

Given how big of an education was, I can 99 percent guarantee a Democratic victory if they nominated a Chap Petersen/Megan McLaughlin type. The swings in Nova were decisive.

On the bright side, Democrats will more than likely be picking fresh faces in 2025 instead of has-beens like Terry McAuliffe or Mark Herring.  At least I certainly will.

Herring has been fighting a windmill saying the ERA is now part of the Constitution. He'll be running for Senate next open seat opportunity.

There's 180k absentees/mail-ins potentially in play. Youngkin has a 90k lead.

That was before the Chesterfield drop

If this is another PA situation, then I don't see how anybody can have faith in the political process.

It's insane not to have early votes counted before polls close.

I don't think it will be, but this is not a good situation for democracy.

I think Murphy narrowly pulls it out in NJ, but no two ways about it, the Dems are unironically in disarray. They need a major game changer to avoid a complete bloodbath in 2022, and I don’t know if they’re competent to turn the ship around, maybe even before 2024. Democrats need to do more with the rare chances they get to actually accomplish something, and they desperately need new faces.

I will say that what bothers me about this result is not McAuliffe losing (he sucks), but how education as an issue hurt all Democrats. I would get into the nuance of the issues with our education system, what role parents should have, how racism can and should be effectively taught, but what’s the point? So few people care, and it’s clearly just used as a wedge issue to scare voters, and I gotta say, it’s not fun having a misrepresented version of your profession made into a boogeyman and having it used to turn people against you.

Supposedly a lot of the Chesterfield vote is ED vote.

If this is true, then that's not good news for T-Mac, at all.

They won't bother calling unless Youngkin's lead grows larger than the number of absentees still standing.

I urge him then to challenge Sen. Mark Warner in the 2026 primary.  Leave Tim Kaine alone.

What I will say is it's incredible that 1/6 will go down as this sort of Baudrillardian event that happened, but never really mattered to voters.

Kinda sad tbh.

Inflation, jobs, and scary school books matter more than democracy.

American politics are weird.

Makes sense. That's exactly how they handled Pennsylvania and Arizona last time, I don't see why they would change that practice.

I think people are overestimating how much CRT impacted this race and underestimating how much schools closures during covid(and republican/democratic messaging on that issue) mattered.

Not particularly indicative of anything. TX Ds do poorly in special elections.
