I didn't know whether to post this article on this board or U.S. General Discussion, but I think it has enough relevance to the election to be here.

Quote
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has notified public health officials in all 50 states and five large cities to prepare to distribute a coronavirus vaccine to health care workers and other high-risk groups as soon as late October or early November.

Quote
Public health experts agree that agencies at all levels of government should urgently prepare for what will eventually be a vast, complex effort to vaccinate hundreds of millions of Americans. But the possibility of a rollout in late October or early November has also heightened concerns that the Trump administration is seeking to rush the distribution of a vaccine — or simply to suggest that one is possible — before Election Day on Nov. 3.

“This timeline of the initial deployment at the end of October is deeply worrisome for the politicization of public health and the potential safety ramifications,” said Saskia Popescu, an infection prevention epidemiologist based in Arizona. “It’s hard not to see this as a push for a pre-election vaccine.”

Quote
The guidance noted that health care professionals, including long-term-care employees, would be among the first to receive the product, along with other essential workers and national security employees.

Called it months ago.
This isn’t that surprising. It’s only going to be for healthcare workers, whether that alone is enough will remain to be seen.

If a vaccine comes out before November it's probably game over for Biden.

Your trolling is getting tiresome. Why don't you just say that you are an obnoxious Trump supporter and get it over with?

A good chunk of the election will be VBM, which means that a good chunk of the votes will already be locked in before anything happens, if it happens before the election.

Nothing will normalize until the vaccine is distributed across the general population, and that will take months to produce. Even if the vaccine were approved today, things wouldn't be normalized until mid December or Spring 2021.

Lose-Lose?

So the CDC tells the states to get ready by November, you guys say, "STOP PLAYING POLITICS WITH THE VACCINE!!"

If the CDC does not tell the states to get ready by November, you guys would then say, "WHY AREN'T THEY BEING PROACTIVE AND TELLING STATES TO PREPARE FOR THE VACCINE NOW!!!"

I'm allowed to want vaccine distribution money in a relief bill
WITHOUT
also approving of a desperate, proven-corrupt incumbent desperately trying to push good news right before his election.

This current bit of news appears to be apolitical and no one in the thread has said "stop playing politics" so... gotta go to the cornfield if you wanna debate strawmen.

A vaccine isn't going to change the results of the election. Also, if a vaccine does come out before November, it will go to front-line workers first and it will be a while before it reaches the general population as a whole. Furthermore, many Americans are anti-vaxxers anyways.

Finally, no one who is going to vote for Biden or Trump is going to suddenly switch their vote because a vaccine has been developed - that's just ridiculous.

I for one will not take any vaccine approved before the election as it would have been rushed out without proper testing to get Trump re-elected. The Dems need to stop bringing a knife to a gunfight and start attacking Trump on this point now in order to blunt the inevitable October Vaccine Surprise.

So much of conservative hysteria over liberal oversight/paranoia is based on the openly-laughable idea that Trump is a good faith actor. We're racing to the worst possibility because we're dealing with a despicable human being, and 60+% of the country knows it!

Every scientist out there says that the earliest a vaccine will be ready is spring 2021.
The CDC sadly has become a Trump mouthpiece, as evidenced with the plasma fiasco.

If the vaccine is rushed past safety standards then it should not be released. Most people would prefer a safe vaccine rather than one that is rushed out for political reasons.

Every scientist out there says that the earliest a vaccine will be ready is spring 2021.

The #1 scientist in the entire country said:

"I believe that by the time we get to the end of this calendar year that we will feel comfortable that we do have a safe and effective vaccine," Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on NBC's "TODAY" on Wednesday.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/fauci-predicts-safe-effective-coronavirus-vaccine-end-year-n1239055

Okay, but the election is November 3, not December 31. It would also take some time to distribute.

But what "we have" means here? There is a difference between having ended the clinical trials and being ready to be approved, and between starting mass production and being ready to distribute to the population.

I don't think this would have that much of an impact. A lot of people will have voted by mail already, and the amount of people who will not yet have voted and will potentially change their minds over this are too small to make an impact.

No. I would say the CDC should get the vaccine ready in whatever the appropriate timeframe is with absolutely no regard to politics. If they actually think that will be by November, so be it. It’s just suspect because of possible political motive. States should be preparing in any case. It’s just “by November” seems like an arbitrary and suspicious deadline to emphasize unless there really is good reason to believe that’s when the vaccine will be ready, and would be regardless of the election.

We aren't going to have a vaccine before 2021. The CDC, unfortunately, has morphed into a Trump mouthpiece, just like every other agency in our country. And on the offchance we actually do have a vaccine, it will change little to nothing.

Trump already failed at managing this pandemic and I in no way want him leading this country another 4 years, should something else happen that requires us to have an actual leader.

The pandemic is the #1 issue. It killed 200k, shut down the economy, forced kids to miss school, postponed the Olympics etc.

To say that a vaccine won't change many people's minds is not correct. It's like saying victory in a nasty war won't have any impact on voters.

And why the vaccine would benefit Trump? Will it make the 200 thousand dead go away?

I really don't know what voter has been sitting around during a pandemic, waiting for a vaccine, considering or planning to vote for Biden, who would just change their mind on that due to scientists creating a vaccine.

It could very well be a “mission accomplished” moment. People will be skeptical about the vaccine and likely be taking a “wait and see” approach.

This is an attempt to help the President without a doubt, given that a vaccine would not be in mass circulation for at least until 2021.

However, I hope a vaccine arrives as soon as possible.
