I was canvassing for a DSA candidate and a 70 year old West Indian woman told me she appreciated his stances on tenants issues but couldn't vote for him because of Breadtube infighting.

Implying they'd vote for him anyway
She said she would. Him and Eric Adams.

DSA Electing LEOs Caucus Time

If the DSA wanted, it could probably easily find retired Black police officers who embrace social democratic politics and police reform. If I had to guess, Krasner easily won a majority of retired Black police officer votes.

If you want police reform, it would probably help to have a large number of personnel in police departments who are aligned with your agenda. Activist left often flails around because it sees some of these institutions as being inherently icky. This attitude is absurd.
No, because they are already part of an organized political network (allied w Diana Richardson and Zellnor Myrie). The DSA candidate in Flatbush was pushed out of the race to make way for a retired Haitian cop who had sued the department. This is part of a larger proxy battle over who will inherit Yvette Clarke's congressional seat - Diana Richardson or Rodneyse Bichotte-Herman. Haitians and Flatbush yids vs. Anglophone West Indians and Crown Heights Chabad.

Agreed that you have a leaky brain if you think a single mayoral candidate is worth supporting, honestly. They will all be terrible

Can we not forget that Adams thinks that we need to abolish summer vacation and replace it with 400-300 kid per teacher zoom classrooms?

This is immediately disqualifying.

I still find it strange that the democratic field both this year & in virtually every other mayoral primary through recent history in NYC has been so weak.

The truth is that the mayoralty is just not that powerful. You can't raise taxes, set mass transit fares, build new subway lines or determine school funding — most of the job is taking the blame for things that happen because of decisions made in Albany.

The balance between how much power a Mayor has vs. how much powerful people think the Mayor has is completely out of whack in New York. As Donerall points out the biggest points of concern for NYC are policies that come from Albany, and it's really rare for the Mayor and Governor to ever see eye to eye.

Being Mayor of New York is a very tough job and that pushes a lot of (the most talent/competent) politicians away from it, and towards running for the Senate, Governorship, etc.

  • advocated for racial profiling as an NYPD officer
  • was a staunch supporter of Louis Farrakhan
  • was a self-described conservative Republican and ally of Giuliani until 2002
  • called Herman Badillo a race traitor for marrying a Jewish woman
  • helped bring about Giuliani’s victory by telling black people not to vote for Dinkins because he condemned the Nation of Islam
  • defended domestic abuser Hiram Monserrate until this February

That list is an ideological headache

Tomorrow is the first in-person debate in the mayoral race. Starts at 7pm EST.

Hoping it's more watchable than the zoom debates have been.

Eric Adams has been endorsed by Midwood Sephardim, Far Rockaway yids, and Crown Heights Chabad recently. Reports of Yang "sweeping" the orthodox "block vote" have been greatly exaggerated.

The most intense detractors of Eric Adams imply that he is both a closet Republican reactionary while also being a vicious anti-Semitic Black separatist.

While I broadly agree with the rest of your post, black separatism and NoI rhetoric are inherently right wing. Black separatists, Israelites etc are anti interracial marriage, homophobic and extremely xenophobic. Farrakhan is only associated with the left because of clueless media personalities who think Black radical automatically = leftist.

McGuire, taking an inaccurate shot against government experience and stuttering over a phrase about child literacy, sums up the state of his campaign.

Yang managed to be even more tone deaf than Adams on policing, saying the mayor should promote recruitment drives and bring in more plain-clothes officers, as if spending more on the NYPD will fix a damn thing. Glad Morales and Stringer called out the Guiliani-esque policing proposals of Yang and Adams.

Yang gives a subtle shoutout to WallStreetBets, "NYC will be left holding the bag again" if budgeting stays the same.

Tragically amusing that ABC cut off the second half of the debate to air Press Your Luck.

Our Revolution has been posting positive stuff on Maya Wiley for a while now, yet for some reason they won’t just endorse her already.

I'm gonna guess that the debate won't change the trajectory of this race?

Probably not, though I think the debate showed a lot more of Adams and his personality. In the zoom debate we didn't see much of him.
