Bush Sr. >> Dole >>>>> Bush Jr.
Dukakis >~ Kerry >>>>> Clinton

So quite easily 1988, followed by 1996.

1988 and 1996 had better winning candidates than 2004, but Kerry was world's better than Dole or Dukakis. I guess 1988 and 1996 would tie for best, Dubya weighs down 2004 too much.

what's wrong with Dukkakis?  I don't really agree with many of his positions, but he seemed like a stand up dude.  Arguably the last Dem nominee we can say that about whose name isn't Obama.

This, except I’d put fewer spaces between Clinton and Kerry and more between HW and Dole.

1992 was even better. Had the best choice of candidates since 1956.

Absolutely, 1992 was arguably the greatest slate of general election candidates we have had in at least the past 100 years.

Both HW Bush and Clinton were excellent Presidents , and Ross Perot was able to successfully use his 3rd party candidacy to bring to the table serious issues such as the deficit and trade(even though I disagreed with him on trade).
