I hope this whole situation calms down soon. Does anyone see this getting more violent?

People keep beating around the bush. Want the broader solution to this crisis in twenty words or less?

Police have to be made to fear maintaining the status quo more than they fear change. Until or unless that happens, cops are going to behave as they've been behaving, and protests are going to continue to occur as they have. When/if cops are just as fearful (or more) of losing their jobs, pensions and families in the middle of the night due to their homes getting firebombed as they are fearful of somebody looking at them funny in the street while they are armed with surplus DOD gear, change will happen. Until then, social, political and cultural gravity will continue to apply here and the status quo will reign.

The scene in Seattle seems pretty tame to invite the response they’re getting. The police are dropping stun grenades and using pepper spray quite liberally.

Even "Left-Wing" West Coast Cities are getting met with disproportionate response violence even with relatively peaceful protest from overwhelmingly White Citizens in many places....

"Liberal Democrat" Kate Brown in Oregon sends in the National Guard against protesters in Portland Oregon, a few hours ago...

Obviously more demonstrations continuing elsewhere, even in heavily Republican Medford Oregon.

And now total scumbag Rahm is an advisor for Biden. Biden bragged about being friends with Thurmond and Eastland in the Senate. It's pretty clear what side he's on.

Trump supporters tried to start **** in Manchester NH. Cops wound up immediately surrounding them and arresting them. Aside from that isolated incident, things have been quiet.

The SPD like to claim that they’re better than police departments in other cities, since they claim to often “review” any use of force and promote de-escalation, but a lot of that is honestly just talk. It’s one thing to be ready for things to turn nasty, but they very clearly got extremely aggressive at the first sign of disruption.

Of course. Remember the time a "model officer" pepper-sprayed a black man in the face for no reason?

And remember how the police chief stood by her, even going as far as to overrule Internal Affairs to remove her suspension? And how she returned to patrol duty six weeks later!

Garcetti and De Blasio should resign, they're embarrassing themselves and Garcetti closed testing centers simply to say  you to protestors.

If you're voting Green, or voting Lib, or abstaining, or some other masturbatory action, that says everything about you.  You pretend to care about black lives.  You pretend to listen to what they have to say.  But when given the option to actually help them, at the cost of nothing but your precious ego, you proudly say "nope, can't help you with that one chief."

Do you actually care about black lives or do you just want to act sanctimonious toward a bunch of people who have empathy (something all people should have regardless of political affiliation) for an innocent person whose life was taken by police just because they aren't voting for your preferred candidate? You can miss me with that bullsh-t, "chief".

Also, judging by the responses in this thread the left-wing non-Biden supporters are some of the most upset by George Floyd's death and the ongoing police brutality (certainly more than the right-wing cop apologists).

I just want to throw out a note from my own life in this regard. I had a nice conversation with a friend of mine today who is a Libertarian and who said she plans to leave her presidential ballot blank in November (she doesn't live in a swing state). Despite us being in pretty different places politically, we're on pretty much the exact same page in supporting the protests, and she has gone a step further than a lot of people I know and is directly contacting her local police stations with her concerns and ideas for reform. Just because you don't agree with a lot of protesters on who to vote for doesn't mean you can't try to support their cause and just because you can't show up for a demonstration or don't feel safe or comfortable doing so doesn't mean you can't make a difference some other way.

It's not going to get any better until he's gone, and the GOP has been rejected.

The relative absence of guns in these is somewhat surprising to me.

Obviously those police officers are outliers, because many on this site claim that most/all cops are bad and evil 🤷‍♂️

These gestures are a step in the right direction, but why aren't we seeing officers openly commit to defunding and demilitarizing their departments? If they really want to be apart of solving this systemic problem, they wouldn't just be kneeling and saying a nice speech while minutes later deploy teargas and rubber bullets to these people (which is getting more clear that they've been using on violent and peaceful demonstrations).

>I want police to be more professional, better trained, and better able to screen out undesirable recruits
>Why haven't police committed to defunding themselves!?

Do people actually believe this tf

I guess they are supposed to host a bake sale to fund that training and screening.

Tell me again how white voters will flock to Trump after watching this sh**t.

Because the type of white people Trump is aiming for hate the media almost as much as they do uppity black people.

Hundreds of marchers just went up my street. I walked down to the sidewalk and took it all in. They were peaceful but were blocking traffic. Overall no harm/no foul, but stay the hell out of the street. The vast majority of them were white, fwiw.

Come on, man. Most of us are an agreement that, disregarding looters were simply opportunistic criminals looking to make some quick bucks, that protesters who devolve into rioters by burning and window-smashing as some attempted political statement are right out, surely blocking a public Street is a reasonable and acceptable form of social protest?

This reminds me how someone on the interwebs pointed out that the same people angry over these protest marches are the same folks who equally lost their s*** over Colin Kaepernick peacefully taking a knee over the same issue.
