I guess by 15 points.

I really wish Democrats would have been smart enough to elect this young, dynamic and well educated guy as their nominee instead of an almost 80-year old notorious groper who’s hiding in a basement because of sex attack accusations ...

Buttigieg would be losing by more/winning by less than any of the final 8 with the probable exceptions of Steyer and Warren (and perhaps Bloomberg).

No.

He’d be a solid contender right now, especially in the swing states.

He would've been one of the weaker nominees. Probably a 2 point lead. It would have been a big risk considering his campaign's inability to connect with nonwhite voters. I love Warren but I'd say the same thing about her campaign.

I guess if Biden were to leave his basement hideout and got infected with Coronavirus, he should instruct his delegates at the DNC and appoint ButtiPete as his successor for the Democratic nomination.

An infection with Covid and sex attack allegations would be too much to carry on.

Even for my taste as a very soft Biden supporter ...

I don't think as much as Biden is now, he had serious issues appealing to Black and Hispanic voters, I'd say his lead would probably be 2-3 points compared to Biden's 6-8% lead

This would not be a good idea. Biden is having problems with the Hispanic vote and turnout. Bernie would've had problems with the black vote and turnout. I can't even begin to imagine what the numbers in those groups would look like if Buttigieg was the nominee, but they'd be abysmal.

Slightly less than Biden is, though there would be lots of undecideds in the polls.

Also Buttigieg looks better with a beard, more presidential and less baby-faced.

Yeah Buttigieg would be polling closer to Trump and I think most of the undecideds would be black and Hispanic voters

So, a gay male who worships at the mantle of free trade would connect better than Biden to blue collar voters? And lets not even mention his support among non-whites.

And if you mention Tara Reade, there would be some scandal with Buttigieg too, whether true or manufactured. Perhaps a true one about something he can be somehow connected to from his McKinsey days.

I supported Pete at the time, but looking back I realize just what a weak candidate he really was. He had no WWC appeal, he was ridden with skeletons, and he was polling terribly against Trump.

You guys are all forgetting that ButtiPete would poll better among Whites against Trump than Biden, which is compensating for weaker polling among Blaxicasians.

3-5% more among the larger group of Whites compared with Biden is worth 20% or more among minorities ...

Agree with everyone else. Pete would be one of the weaker candidates, probably only stronger than Warren and maybe Bloomberg if we're only counting major candidates. (I don't really know how Bloomberg would have played in a GE since there's really no recent examples of parties nominating presidential candidates so out of line with the rest of the party.

He’d be pulling even nationally and he would certainly be underwater in Florida, North Carolina, Arizona, and possibly Wisconsin and Michigan.

These hypothetical questions are too hypothetical for me to answer. I don't know how well he would be polling if he were in Biden's shoes. I can only state that *I* would be excited about voting Democrat for President for the first time since Michael Dukakis, .... and I was not particularly excited about Dukakis anyway!

If Mayor Pete was the nominee this gay nonwhite Democrat would be panicked about nonwhite turnout.  He'd probably be trying to woo Kamala Harris and Catherine Cortez Masto for the ticket right now.  But they would not be able to save that mess.

I also think Mayor Pete would have worse trouble with the "True Left" than Biden.  Both Bernie and Elizabeth gave Joe full-on endorsements which showed they have known him for a long time.  With Mayor Pete I think they would have gone through the motions of an endorsement.  People would have noticed how fake it was.

We'd be running a mayor of a mid-sized town during a severe worldwide crisis.  That does not inspire confidence.

By like 2 points.  Pete was just a relatively weak candidate, at least until he's 4/8 years older and  promoted to a cabinet position.
