Yes, it was a mistake, but assuming Aliyev controls Azerbaijan on his own, and Asadov has no real power, I do not think that this will seriously hurt the series of polls

The tyrant and xenophobe Aliyev is of course a massive HP. The conflict with Armenia might have been solved years ago if Aliyev and his late father had not found it useful to incite hatred against Armenians to stay in power.

Asadov is a powerless puppet, but anyone willing to work with Aliyev in such a position is a HP by definition.
