China has 1.4 billion people, most of whom are crammed into an area the size of the Atlantic-Mississippi. The number of infected and risk of transmission both far exceeded what the US will likely see. The politics are different for sure, but the country has begun to open back up and normalcy has slowly returned for most Chinese cities.

Yes, after two months of lockdown, most of which featured very aggressive testing, social tracing, and quarantining.

There is no question the virus has spread across the US, but this is not news. A bunch of angry red dots on the map say nothing about the prognosis for the country and nor does a comprehensive spread preclude a recovery. Suggesting millions of people might die because the virus is in every state is irresponsible and alarmist.

You realize that many metro hospitals are currently operating at or near capacity and that the virus is still spreading into rural areas with understaffed and under-resourced health care... right?

LOL @ dude who says De Blasio isn't a Democrat while talking about cherry-picking and gas-lighting  Angry

Re: Heroic Actions of Flawless Cuomo.
MSM created a hero seeing Biden's lame response.

Trump declared a public health emergency on 31st January. What did Cuomo do in the weeks that followed it?

Don't get me wrong. The Cuomo's actions in last 3-4 weeks have been really, really good. But it is quite easy to "take it very seriously" demanding this and that, when it is too late'ish. "Gimme 40,000 ventilators and 10 mln masks! Send Military to build temporary hospitals! We'll need $40 bln, but Trumps Boomer Stimulus gives us only 4 $bln!!"

He is not wrong here, but what have he done during the weeks following the public health emergency declaration?

Another big spike in new infections today in Italy.  Even the most patient people on this board said we should wait until March 24 to start to see a decline.  It’s now March 26, and still no sign the lockdown is working to reduce the spread.
"Up then down then up then down"  increases in infections/deaths is - QED by math - less growrth (not as bad as) exponential growth. There is a very good chance that Italy would still be exponentially growing right now, OR that it would be in decline after a HUGE recent peak that caused maybe 1500 or 2000 deaths per day for 2 or 3 days during almost total hospital collapse.

Also worth noting that this comes at a time when the worldwide infection rate is still growing exponentially:

Yall really need to put him on ignore. Forumlurker has nothing helpful or useful to say about Corona response and the more yall interact with him the more he is likely to continue posting evil extreme alarmist bs.

Frankly if the government declares martial law over this (which they wont and no one even remotely credible is calling for) Im going to go on record endorsing actual terrorism to oppose it (future conditional so this statement doesnt violate TOS). And there will be a hell of a lot more of us endorsing the same. We can call ourselves the 99.7%.

Come on, Mr. Reactionary, you can come up with something snappier than that!

Italy didn't increase their reported infections enough to pass China today... Which means that the US is probably going to pass both Italy and China tomorrow, and Italy will never have the most reported infections globally (except arguably tomorrow between when Italy reports a new total and when the US reports a new total).

It is a highly misleading stats (or, you should think that CFR is somehow 10 to 20 times worse in Italy/Spain/France than in US) , but I'm sure that Unbiased Media will provide a full context and explain it to Americans. Ah, whom am I kidding? The people, whom Trump calls the Enemy of the People, will keep defrauding American People by leaving out these "petty" details.

The people?

Also, totally off-topic, but kudos for saying "whom am I kidding?".  I had an English professor who would lose her marbles when people botched who vs. whom.  She was...interesting....

That's it.  You've usually provided enough posts of value that I've resisted putting you on Ignore despite your constant trolling.  But lately you make almost every one of your posts into an anti-media diatribe.  Your signal/noise ratio has dropped below the minimum threshold, and I'm done with it.  See ya.

It occurs to me that many countries, including the US, within a couple weeks will have tens of thousands of people who have fully recovered from the virus.  For some period of time (as least several months), these people are immune to getting the virus, and I believe also unable to spread it.

The government should immediately be employing and training these people to do coronavirus testing and treatment.  It would not only dramatically ease the burden on existing medical workers, but also the burden on equipment, since presumably people with immunity could do these jobs without the need for additional PPE.

TBF one is likely trolling here and the other is seriously arguing in good faith although forumlurker also shows that state mandated violence is acceptable to some degree compared to regular violence.

The Democratic response to every issue (including Coronavirus) is nothing more than anti-Trump virtue signaling.

Oh come on. There's nothing partisan about how different local officials have responded based on Trump's response. Inslee and Newsome have been strict, Cuomo was strict while de Blasio was lackadaisical. De Santis hasn't responded strongly, JBE hasn't responded strongly enough, and there is the interesting divide between Beshear and Lee that others have noted

All it comes down to is that nobody wants to be the guy who shuts everything down. Smart local officials have done so anyway, while others who are more concerned with their short term approval have not. Thinking De Blasio is spreading COVID to spite Trump, which seems to be the argument here, is just its own form of Trump derangement syndrome.

If this was a partisan issue, why are Washington and California the best states on that chart?

It's really just Bill de Blasio and people in his administration. BdB is not a Democrat.  We don't want him.  He is a socialist and a raging asshole with an approval rating of like 10%.  If it were possible to recall him, New Yorkers would do it.  He is the reason why NYC is so f**ked right now.  Now we can all see why Cuomo hates him.  Cuomo's taking this deadly seriously and de Blasio was like "lol here's my suggestions for how to spread it" as recently as two weeks ago.

This whole thing is just insane gaslighting.  Democrats were screaming at the Trump administration for like a month before this all exploded, and you guys and your president laughed it off.  Just more TDS and media hysteria, amirite?  You can just go back to the earlier coronavirus threads to see for yourself.  Heck, some of your governors are still laughing it off.  Look at Florida.  Look at Mississippi.  Look at Texas.  Look at Trump saying everyone should go back outside in two weeks.

You are cherry-picking the one guy who screwed this up on our side, who even we universally condemn, and saying that's representative of our entire party.  No way Jose.

A "Socialists are bad and we [?] agree they don't belong in the Party" take during the middle of this COVID-19 thread? Sure, I guess

What trolling and derailing? I agree with Trump description of journalist and explain why. Both France and US have ~1000 dead and ~same rate of growth, but US have 3 times more reported cases. Will Rachel Maddow and her likes mention that? I doubt.

Mostly due to inaction from the federal government, and a president who cares more about the stock market than saving old people.

Yeah, you were literally talking about Covid 19 in the Covid 19 thread. Not sure how thats "derailing" unless any opinion other than "OMG were all gonna die and if u disagree ur a murderer" is considered "derailing".
