Gallup has really become a garbage and unreliable pollster in the past few years. It's really pathetic and embarrassing.

This is from a national survey of 22,000+ people from April 16-26:

Approval of Trump's response trails approval of the state's governor in all 50 states and DC.  The list of all states is on page 9 of the linked document:

GWB got his approvals over 70% at the start of the Iraq War. We all know how quickly that changed. My point? People are fickle, and polls are a snapshot of the past, they say nothing at all about the future. So stop trying to infer that they do. Thanks.

Both Suffolk and Emerson, two of Trump's best pollsters, have Trump underwater by a substantial margin. So I'm going to put very little stock into Gallup.

Cherry picking polls like this is why you’ll be disappointed if you lose.

I'm not cherry picking. Im calling the Gallup poll an outlier, which it is.

Gallup is getting embarrasing. Not only with their +2 approval poll, but their +1 handling of the virus.

Also this:

Quote
47% of independents approve of the job he is doing as president, the highest Gallup has measured for the group to date.

Sure, jan

It’s actually very plausible to have a slightly higher rating for a current crisis compared to your overall job....

And in this case, it’s also a statistical tie. You don’t really have a point.

Polarized as America has been, most Americans will be disappointed if their side loses.

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/495504-governors-in-all-50-states-get-better-marks-than-trump-for-covid

I had a laboriously-composed set of maps for this thread involving the approval numbers of the President and of State governors on their handling of COVID-19, and they vanished as if in a magic act. It is safe to assume that peacetime Presidents are best known, among other things, for their handling of natural disasters that include  volcanic eruptions, tornadoes and hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, and outbreaks of new and dangerous contagions.

Carter could do little more about the eruption of Mount St. Helens except to get as many people out as possible. Reagan bungled the response to AIDS, but one must remember that most of the victims back then were IV drug users (then as now social pariahs) and male homosexuals (then pariahs, but now mainstream).  The elder Bush dealt well with the Loma Prieta Earthquake, getting praise for such from Democratic officials. I forget what happened under Clinton other than a terrorist attack. Dubya seemed to handle 9/11 well until he diverted resources to the overthrow of Saddam Hussein and  botched  the response to Hurricane Katrina. Obama seemed to have the fortune to have only floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes... but he handled those as well as could be done. Trump badly botched the response to forest fires... and all in all he has disgraced himself badly on COVID-19.

This is a huge and unmitigated disaster for the President, and the only good thing for him as the result of stay-at-home orders will be that such may keep people from participating in mass demonstrations against him as the temperatures warm in the summer.

The juicy data is on Page 9.

He is up 3 points in the latest WaPo poll. Despite claims his bounce faded, it really hasn't entirely. He is consistently trending up in a long term perspective.

No.  You're just wrong.  Go look at this chart: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/

That shows him at -9.5, whereas just before his bounce he was at -10.9. Yes it goes up and down, but his peaks keep getting higher and his valleys not as low.

I wouldn't even do that. The anxieties that are currently plaguing me do not include Trump's poll numbers for now.

Honestly, the fact that 35% think it's still better than 4 years is ludicrous. We're in the midst of an economic catastrophe unlike anything seen in almost every living person's lifetime, so of course it's worse now than it was 4 years ago. That much is true even if you're one of those people who thinks Trump miraculously pulled us out of the Mad Max-level American carnage of the Obama years.
Yes but at least we no longer have a Muslim socialist terrorist as President anymore Cheesy.

#URANIUMONE #BENGHAZI #HEREMAILS

Obama is racist against whites, he is the most racist President we have ever had, his war on whites was devastating. He also forged his birth certificate, and nobody except Trump had the courage to call Obama out on it.

Yep, his approval sure is surging!

Do you approve or disapprove of how Trump is handling the virus?

March 11-12: 43/54 (-11)
March 18-19: 55/43 (+12)
April 1-2: 47/52 (-5)
April 8-9: 44/55 (-11)
April 15-16: 44/54 (-10)
April 29-30: 42/57 (-15)

Public Religion Research Institute, April 21-26, 1008 adults (change from March)

This is favorability, not approval.

Favorable 43 (-6)
Unfavorable 54 (+8)

Some interesting bits:

Quote
Trump’s favorability ratings have retreated back to 2019 levels among most demographic groups, with a few exceptions. Currently, two-thirds (66%) of white evangelical Protestants, nearly half (48%) of white Catholics, and 44% of white mainline Protestants hold a favorable view of Trump, a significant decline from their March 2020 ratings (77%, 60%, and 62%, respectively). Among nonwhite Protestants, Trump’s favorability ratings have not significantly changed (from 40% in March to 36% in April 2020).[3] The same is true for religiously unaffiliated Americans. Nearly four in ten (37%) religiously unaffiliated Americans express favorable views of Trump, and these numbers have not changed notably since 2019.

Quote
Trump’s favorability in battleground states has dropped substantially since March, from 53% to 38%. The president’s favorability in Democratic-leaning and Republican-leaning states has not significantly changed.

The battleground states are defined as those listed as Tossups by Cook: AZ, FL, MI, NC, PA, and WI

IBD/TIPP, April 26-29, 1225 adults (1-month change)

Approve 44 (-1)
Disapprove 44 (-1)

Among RV (N=948):

Biden 43 (-4)
Trump 43 (+2)

So.... during Trump's rally effect he was down by 6, but now that his rating has tumbled pretty much every where else, he is now tied with Biden? And his approval has virtually stayed the same?

Not to mention, how are 12% unsure of how they feel about Trump. I mean come on.
