Chalian noted something interesting on CNN just now:

It was actually Bernie Sanders who emphasized to change to a more "modern" reporting system after 2016, which led the Iowa Dem. Party to purchase this app.

So it seems the IA Dems + Bernie are to blame the most for this fail, Buttigieg certainly the least ...

You can't blame Bernie, because the modernization of reporting systems is a rightful demand and makes sense. The electoral process is not conducted by Bernie supporters, unless the party's organization has been coopted by 'radical socialists' and I haven't noticed. It's the party establishment the one who has failed miserably. Hopefully this fiasco will provoke a revolution in the Democratic base and Bernie supporters will take the Winter Palace in St Petersburg (sorry, I meant the White House in Washington)
Nobody is blaming Bernie for f**ks sake. It was the BernieBros who were quick to cook up some Buttigieg conspiracy theory.
Tender Branson did that a page ago. Most of the subsequent posts are people responding to that ya dingus.

Republican vote 99% in all but 1 precinct reporting
Democratic  vote ...

Write your sarcastic headlines...

"When the Day of the Iowa Caucuses ended, Bill Weld and Joe Walsh each had more support for president than any of the Democratic contenders."

We should have seen it coming:

It's going to be a Sanders landslide, folks. 2004 all over again. After tonight, we will have a Democratic nominee.

What a nightmare. Are we going to learn when we're going to get the results soon?

Above politics, a part of me is just disappointed that we don't have any numbers to pore over as I expected we would.

Then again, I REALLY should be paying attention to this lecture...

The real question we should all be asking is: "How should Iowa be punished for this?"

There must be punishment. It would be unfair to the voters (who are not the ones to blame) to simply strip Iowa of its 2020 delegates, and it would also be unfair to the winner (apparently Bernie) and would bailout the biggest loser of the caucus (indisputably Biden).

So my suggestion is that in 2024, Iowa should be made to go last-in-the-nation, rather than first in the nation. Iowa can still call its primary a "caucus," but de facto it will be effectively like a primary, with a secret ballot and they just count everyone's first choices, in the same way as the Iowa GOP "caucus." If Iowa refuses to comply with this, then they will be stripped of all their 2024 delegates. And in 2024, Nevada should take Iowa's place as the 1st in the nation Caucus.

The DNC should get rid of caucuses for good and have an open primary system for the next cycle. It's so ridiculous. We're going to have so many more problems this primary that nobody's going to trust the final outcome.

Don't reward Nevada too quickly. They are using the same poorly made app that Iowa used.

Are we going to apply this to all other party elections then? You're required to vote for the president in each party's Convention in not a secret ballot but instead publicly.

To be fair to Nevada, it's probably too late to change course at this point, though they should be urgently looking into hiring some temporary phone line staffers to make it easier to call in results (and I think Nevada has a lot fewer caucus locations and isn't doing the four-different-results nonsense, which will make it somewhat easier to keep track).

So, the Iowa Democratic Party is about to have a conference call with the campaigns. Hopefully, they'll say when they plan to release the results.

Turnout didn't look that low though? If anything, reports seem to suggest it's on par with 2016, which is fine. Was never going to reach 2008 levels. Also, low turnout in a *CAUCUS* isn't indicative of anything necessarily... besides that caucuses disenfranchise a LOT of people.

Looking back at last night, it's hard to believe something like this could happen. Like this wasn't some small congressional district or local election (not that it would be acceptable either way), this is the Democratic nomination process for President. Makes you appreciate states that have their act together and get results out in a timely manner a lot more.

Iowa caucus app crashes, the computers in the library near me were slower than usual, woke up to find I had bought two bottles of MD 20/20 and not just one. All connected.
