Connell McShane of Fox Business at Drake University observing the caucus. Says it's close between the top five or so candidates.

I don't care if you guys think caucuses are cool. They're terrible for people who don't want to get screamed at by hundreds of different voices in a gymnasium. We are a forum full of people passionate about politics so we have no problem with voicing our support for a candidate in front of everyone else so we don't see a problem with the caucus system. But most Americans aren't like that.

Get rid of them.

TBH the Dems have more  or less done that. The only regions with caucuses in 2020 are territories and Wyoming (too small to justify primary expenses) and the first two Nevada and Iowa.

That's good, but I was responding to the users who were expressing their love for the caucuses a few pages back.

I really hope the Iowa Democratic Party app isn't having issues.

MSNBC said more than half the vote was in at this point in 2008 and Al Gore was declaring victory.  They're bombing it this year.

Abolish caucuses.

A bit weird for Al Gore to be declaring victory when he wasn't even running. I hope he quickly conceded to Obama.

He's probably referring to 2000 with regards to Gore.

From an observational standpoint, this is the worst caucus in my lifetime. It's not just the difficulty/delay in vote-counting (which given all the candidates, is understandable): it's also how virtually every single outlet isnt capable of presenting their data right (terrible entrance polls, inability to tally reported votes, etc).

For those wondering the 27ish precincts with votes currently are mostly from the various satellite primaries, be they in or outside the state.

EDIT: First vote Results just spiked, looks like the state is finally done in some areas.

Looks like both Buttigieg and Biden are benefitting from realignment... Sanders & Warren getting wasted.

I honestly didn’t expect Pete to be a factor tonight. Will really be fun if this is as competitive as it looks!

I'll wait until we actually get some results to think about realignment

At this time, we had 30% of the 2012 GOP precincts & 40% of the 2016 GOP precincts

I remember those results coming in pretty quickly.

I don’t understand how Warren can be at 21% in first vote but only 15% in final vote on the NYT site right now.  How could she lose that much if she should be viable in most precincts?

Grow up. You can sit in a corner quietly or in a back row somewhere, don't present this like its a verbal harassment circus. If you're with a candidate thats non-viable you can easily go home or quietly move to another supporters group. You dont have to partake in things you dont want to.

I agree with the original poster.  I did the 2016 Kansas caucus, and it was total sensory overload.  I was forced to leave the room, and I can't even imagine what hell it would be like for someone with Asberger's.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were an ADA lawsuit at some point.

Very uneven levels of support with at lot of areas below 15%

I totally 100% agree. Every single person who was involved in any way for making results sites for anyone should all be mass fired.

First votes were released now for some Iowa precincts but not final votes. It's why numbers just spiked.

Also, CNN removed the entrance poll section from their website. I guess they're as annoyed as I am

Yep, and CNN’s team is seemingly ignorant on how the process runs. This is such an anticipated event and there’s such a big lead up to it, you’d think they’d have done their research
