I have a friend in Iowa who, I am pleased to report, was re-elected to his position on the executive of Story County Republicans. He told me back in 2004 that Republicans use actual ballots when doing their caucus and do not rely on any form of technology. After seeing what has happened this evening, my belief is that that the caucus system should be declared dead and that all primaries are just that, closed primaries.

LOL, CNN trying to spin this as a Biden win.

It's not that hard to spin it as a Biden win.

That would be absolutely chaotic, and almost certainly damn the party in November.

I can't tell if you're talking about nullification or the current dumpster fire.

i'm so sad because this could have killed Biden's campaign. Now he can become the nominee while ending fifth in IA.

Right! The headlines aren't about Biden being fustigated with a fifth place finish - they should be! This is a win for him. He's unwounded by an awful, awful result.

New Hampshire voters care.
Biden will not be viable in New Hampshire.

A delay in results is eventually explainable. Outright saying “nah, this one didn’t count”? Impossible to come back from.

People are under-estimating the impact of Biden's performance. He is 4th or 5th & that will be discussed on Wednesday odd when there is a debate in NH. He will lose NH to Bernie & there will be another debate after that. If he loses Nevada too, there will be a SC debate where he will have to answer why he keeps losing. It is humiliating for the front-runner to appear in debate after debate having lost 1 race after the other.

Biden also under-performed polls. He polled 2-3% below the DMR poll & more than 10-12% below in some polls. He crashed in urban areas & among young voters. This will not be limited to Iowa. He will under-perform polls in NH, NV & SC. If he is ahead by 5% in SC, he may well lose SC.

She's too busy running Georgia. Her and the President Hillary Clinton Administration work closely together.

Why?
They are only making sure the votes are counted and reported correctly.

Yeah, fine, but who swings into the center-left lane when he goes? Pete isn't a serious candidate. Klob needed more from Iowa. Is it really Bloomy or bust? That wing of the party needs Biden to stay afloat until Super Tuesday, no matter how ugly it gets between now and then.

CNN's panel of both Republicans and Democrats are all agreeing with each other in their criticisms of how the Iowan Democrats are handling the issue. Rick Santorum said that the secrecy may mean that there is more to be concerned about.

The Democrats have a big, big problem. 10% of Sanders voters voted for Trump, largely due to the feeling that the process was rigged. Now we have this. More Democrats are going to be disenfranchised. They don't even have to vote for Trump, just staying home can hurt the Dems.

It turns out that yes, this app used in Iowa is the exact same app as the one used in Nevada, which is right after New Hampshire. Uh oh...

If they don't switch to paper and pencil in Nevada, they deserve to lose to Trump.

So even if we don't have the numbers yet, it's pretty clear that Biden had a terrible performance tonight, right?

Yep, either 4th or 5th. And he's no Bill Clinton; he's sure to lose NH, since he already triaged it.

John McCain came in a pathetic 4th place in the 2008 Republican Iowa primary.
