The GOP base demanded Bush to withdraw Miers’ nominated.  Bush caved and nominated Alito, giving the GOP base everything they could have wanted.

The Dem base “demanded” a filibuster…they got NOTHING from the Dem, they ignored the demand to filibuster!

Wonder how the Dem base feels right about now?

It's called being in power jmfcst. Why would a Republican president, senate and house capitulate to a Democratic base and vice versa.

I meant that the GOP listened to the GOP base, but the Dems didn't listen to the Dem base.

The Dem base demanded a filibuster, but the Dems ignored the order.  If I were a member of the Dem base, which thankfully I am not, I would be pretty bothered right about now.

It depends on who you mean by 'base' though. Daily Kos isn't THE Democratic base Smiley It would probably be more damaging to the Democrats in the long run if they had pursued a filibuster under the current circumstances.

I wouldn't say capitulating to the crazy right wing is neccessarily a good thing...

To some extent it is unavoidable, as such a large portion of the country's population are intolerants.

I think bragging about how your party responds to its base means that it's a good thing.

The Democrats ignoring of the base worked so well for 2002 and 2004.

Hang in there with the Dems and work to move your party more to the left.

Uh, I said no one capitulated to the 'crazy right-wing' by nominating Alito. I'm sorry you hate the Constitution so much.

What, no outrage from the Dems?  Come one, it's gotta hurt!  After all, it's not like getting a manicure, you're losing control of the only branch of government where the Dems have the power to overturn the will of the majority.

The Dem senators didn't listen to your demands to throw up a filibuster.  Go ahead...SCREAM...it's gotta be PAINFUL!

I always knew the Dems were running out of guts...not only that, they're running out of justices!

I believe that is inaccurate, as the regime has promised to eliminate the filibuster if it is ever used again.

So obviously we must save the fillibuster by never using it....... That argument probably fools several of our DINOs.

You never said any such thing, I meant capitulating to the right wing by withdrawing Meirs.  I still don't understand why Republicans didn't trust her.

Yes, I believe your easter Bunny 'lost' a lot more painfully than we liberals have, eh? Wink

Souter, Kennedy, O'Connor...

Alito is one of us: highly qualified, determined, and intelligent.

To Dems, he is the smell of death; to us, the smell of victory.

(I know…aggravating isn’t it?! Wink )
