So, another day, another story about how a 16yr old took a train through Europe (I know, huge shocker, like none of us ever take public transport.).

The poor girl whose childhood was stolen had to sit on the floor as it was so crowded, so she made sure to document it.

Well, that poor child sitting on the floor forgot the internet works both ways.

I just love it! Enjoy 1st class, and online pretend you're stuck on the floor as the rest of the poor people.

The question is:

Which story is true ?

Did she really have to sit on the floor during her train journey through Germany ?

Or was she sitting inside a 1st class cabin like Deutsche Bahn said and only took the picture outside ?

If the first was the case, then it is very bold from DB to refer to her floor journey as „first class treatment“ ... Tongue

Also interesting how the Right constantly attacks this young girl with a mental disability, just because they are unwilling to deal with the issue at hand and continue their war against the environment ...

Her clarification is missing.

„Overcrowded trains“ is not necessarily meant negatively:

Speaking as someone who has to use DB on a semi-regular basis, it’s nice to see someone with a media profile pointing out what the rest of us already know - that thanks to years of CDU budget surplus fetishism, their service is falling apart at the seams

I'm pro-environment, it's just that I think we should suggest plausible solutions, not just talk about how we need to stop reproducing or burning fuel tomorrow.

Safe Nuclear like France is the first stop, anyone who's against it is signing to worsen climate change.

Once people develop good energy storage, by all means, wind, solar and wave energy it is.

She's a irritating (like most teenagers) 16 year old girl, but that's not a good reason to go after her this way. I personally hate the entire cult around her, but the hate cult from the other side is despicable.

Yes her solutions are sh**t, but blame her handlers for that, not GT.

Deutsche Bahn has been rebuked by the state of Berlin's data protection officer for releasing personal information on Greta Thunberg and her DB travel schedule to the public without her consent.

So that means she did travel first class and try and fake it.

No, she didn't.

For the first part of her travel she sat on the floor, for the second part she had a seat in the first class. So, both Thunberg's and DB's claims are essentially true.

Btw, I find it truly amazing what people obsess themselves over. Of all the problems the world is facing today, this bullsh**t story is what people waste their time with?

Seriously?

People "obsess" over Greta because her family and their retainers have run a wildly successful campaign to make her a household name.

They nailed that then.

An interesting character.

Youth
Anger
Impertinence
Global
Naivety

I dont agree with her, but she is one of the youngest persons ever to reach the global stage in such a manner.

Well, she does provide people with plenty of ammunition to criticize her. Greta is an activist for a good cause. But she most certainly hasn't been robbed of her childhood and her "how dare you" shtick is slowly but surely veering off into the entitled/annoying territory. She is an incredibly privileged white girl from one of the most affluent countries in the world that is now telling brown people living in poverty that the era of economic growth has to come to an end.

BTW, no one is forcing her to post details of her travels. If she subsequently receives some pushback for her perhaps somewhat liberal interpretation of the truth, that is on her not on evil right-wingers that are supposedly going out of their way to attack a poor 16 year old.

Judging by her 20k chairs, what do you think, who caused more Co2 in their lifetime, a normal person's family, or she and her family?

Do as we say, not as we do.

It really is becoming more of the latter, at this point.

Honestly, I'm more concerned with the fact that somebody is fixated enough on #DEBUNKING (or whatever) Greta Thunberg to research how much the furniture in her house costs than I am with the fact that her family isn't living as modestly as they think others should.

It generally doesn't cause more Co2 emission to produce an expensive chair than a cheap one, so it's an odd example.

The leather used for the expensive chair will be from cows slaughtered for meat, so that doesn't cause any extra methane emission.

that's not a safe assumption to make

that's assuming there is no negative outcome to the environment from the tanning process...(hint, there is...a lot, certainly some of it is going to be in the form of Co2)

What's bad for the environment and what affects climate change are two different things, there is no reason to talk about "the environment" in the abstract when discussing climate change, it's two different problems (some of the measures necessary to curtail or mitigate climate change will even harm the environment). Methane is a far more potent climate gas than Co2, so that's why I focused on that. Whatever extra Co2 emission is caused by tanning is negligible compared to the methane emission from the cows.

Lastly, "that's not a safe assumption to make". Why not? It's a myth that the production of luxury items is more Co2 extensive than the production of cheap stuff. Transport costs are e.g. going to be the same.
