What is your opinion of the Atlas Forum user IceSpear, chiefly notable for 1. his usually accurate predictions of increasingly knee-jerk Republican sectionalism among rural whites and 2. his self-congratulatory attitude about the degree to which this confirms his stereotypes of such people?

He straight-up admitted he would have believed VA was more racist than WV in the 80s and 90s . He also said lol he thinks WV Baby Boomers value racism more than prior generations do

FF. IceSpear is one of the most humorous posters on this forum, and he doesn't take things too seriously. Moreover, he's one of the most accurate posters here, in regards to his electoral predictions, and tends to be straightforward and blunt with his views. I often find myself laughing at what he posts (in a good way).

The forum became so much more tolerable once I put him on ignore.

It doesn't matter if he's right or wrong, his writing style is so f[inks]ing grating its unreadable. The way he overused emojis would still make me want to claw my eyes out even if I agreed with every single thing he posted. So now I don't have to read anything from him ever again, hooray!

FF and my best buddy on here! As a single gay white male who lives in a rural area, I find his mocking of the deplorables to be quite accurate and it's humorous how much he triggers certain posters on here with it.

I hope IceSpear gets into politics, because he’s the hero the Democratic Party needs right now.

For the record, my own opinion of IceSpear is that he's (sadly) a sort of prophet of the (profoundly toxic and, yes, deplorable) political and social trends of rural America, but that he oversells this with his obvious relish at how this confirms his snobbish preconceptions about non-yuppie lifestyles. I think he's someone who (more or less rightly) hates anything and everything that the Republican Party stands for, and that currently includes rural culture writ large, on account of the, again, escalating knee-jerk sectional voting. Hopefully the fact that people seem to like him and his #analysis overall will make him more receptive to the pushback he gets for the more overtly classist remarks he sometimes makes.

The one thing I wish more than anything else is that he'd decouple his perceptions of "the working class" from his perceptions of "rural areas"; I object to many of his takes on both but his takes on the former are significantly more galling. The most frothing-at-the-mouth MAGA bigots in rural areas tend to be the people who are relatively well-off (although obviously not nearly as rich as people on the Upper West Side or the Philadelphia Main Line), and both afleitch and I wrote about the presence of a pointedly left-leaning sector of the working class among young people in urban areas in this thread.

Not defending IceSpear's comments on rural America, but he has poked fun at yuppie #resistance type liberals more than a few times, so I think he can at least see that there is a lot of stupidity on all sides of the political spectrum.
