If a super majority in Kosovo wants either independence or to be part of Albania instead.

Yes, and I support the Balkanization of all countries, not just those in the Balkans.

I don't often support independence movements, because many of the places don't really have a good reason to be and their independence would just cause more harm than good (Scotland, Catalonia, Quebec, etc.). But the atrocities and attempted ethnic cleaning of Kosovo that Serbia has committed is a good enough reason to me.

This is my general feeling as well.

It also matters to me that Kosovo is about 90% Albanian, has a fairly discrete physical territory, and has been able to maintain quasi-independence for about two decades.

This, with the caveat that I hope Kosovo someday becomes a part of federal Europe.

90% because the rest was ethnically cleansed by the fascist KLA "freedom fighters"

Yes. They shouldn’t have to live under a regime that slaughtered so many of them.

No. Kosovo set a precedent after which no borders in Europe became secure and stable. It's not surprizing, that our (Russian) official propaganda frequently mentions Kosovo as justification for it's actions in Crimea.

This. Independence is technically the best idea for both Serbia and Kosovo, and if I were a Serb I would perhaps even support it for the same reason that I would support a two-state solution in Israel: can't ignore basic demographics. However, NATO and the West have been acting disgracefully here, which is a good reason to side with Serbia for now.

I’ve only ever heard the pro-Serb argument maybe once, and never articulated. Could you go into some detail? Yugoslavia is not my strong area.

Lets to clear.  If Kosovo fought a war of independence and defeated Serbia on the battlefield and in a peace treaty got Independence I would count that as Serbia agreeing.  It might be under duress but most international boundary changes in history were under duress anyway.    I actually do think if Serbia regained control of Kosovo the cost of holding on to it by Serbia might be too high anyway so if I were Serbia I would first offer a confederation with Kosovo and if that would not work try to work out a deal with Kosovo Independence linked to compensation for Serbia.  But that is me and I for sure do not speak for Serbia.  I think the memories of the ancient Battle of Kosovo might be too strong in the Serbian national psyche to take an utilitarian attitude toward this.

Yes, but I’m not going to pretend that NATO’s “interest” in Kosovo is well intentioned either.

Yes, provided that the Serbian majority communities in the north are given political autonomy.
