Joe Biden’s appeal actually isn’t a mystery
Quote
None of the complaints from the Twitter-verse nor the eyerolling over gaffes has punctured former vice president Joe Biden’s support in the Democratic presidential primary. As Ryan Lizza aptly puts it, “This is the central paradox of Biden’s run: He’s been amazingly durable. But he gets no respect from the people who make conventional wisdom on the left.” Real voters who have known him for decades don’t care about the gaffes or even his age. (Efforts to paint Biden as two steps from senility wind up offending the older voters whose loyalty he enjoys.) His popularity endures after months of unrelenting bashing on social media.

The media put emphasis on moments — a debate, a gaffe — which those following the race sporadically wave off as noise. Lifelong Democratic voters don’t need to listen to the media; they know who Biden is. (Warning to President Trump: Voters have deep affection for Biden and deep animosity toward the president, so attacking Biden in personal terms may well backfire spectacularly.)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/09/11/biden-dilemma/

What a nonsensical take. There's no doubting that Biden has core support amongst the boomer crowd that is unlikely to diminish for the time being, but this is only a segment of the larger Democratic electorate which is craving a different candidate. His gaffes absolutely matter to soft supporters of his candidacy (as do his uninspired policies) as evident through his shrinking lead over Warren and Sanders. If this is the prominent mindset with Biden supporters - that "Real voters" have a "deep affection for Biden" and nothing that mainstream or social media can say will damage his prospective primary performance - then you may be in for a surprise come February.

Biden is beginning to fade in the polls, either Warren or Bernie will be the nominee. Once, Biden loses in NH, IA and NV, blacks in Deep South are gonna be reminded about his lack of kander for them during the busing issue.

Southern Blacks arent that allegiant to Biden like he thinks they are. Northern Blacks dont like Biden and preferred Harris. I hope Biden realizes this

The people "who make conventional wisdom" as the most moronic, out of touch people in the country.

So Bernie/Warren are only attracting already-committed hardcore supporters to play the greatest hits.
Or alternatively, his greater support is much softer than of the other candidates, largely based on his perception as the strongest candidate and thus liable to disappear if this perception vanishes.

This ad had absolutely nothing to do with the 2020 campaign. It's really pathetic, how he can't stand on his own two feet.

I dont know if Biden doesnt do debate prep or is incredibly rusty or if its just old age, but the incoherent word jumble he keeps spouting is gonna be a huge liability come the general.

This guy may actually lose to Trump because of his incoherent rambling in the debate stage. Biden vs Trump will be a crazy debate.

What is wrong with him pointing out the record of the man whose Vice President, he was for 8 years?

This guy may actually lose to Trump because of his incoherent rambling in the debate stage. Biden vs Trump will be a crazy debate.

Everyone said in 2016 that Donald Trump would be a good debater, Hillary Clinton made him look like a fool. The reason is that Trump's interruptions and interjections do not look good, if the audience does not respond to them with applause. Also, 2020 is probably Democrat favored anyways, due to numerous factors including Trump's low approval rating and the possibility of a recession. Also Biden consistently leads Trump by the largest margin, and it is because of his appeal as a candidate to people who Democrats need to win back in 2020, his appeal in a general election is not going to take some massive hit, because of a Democratic debate, more than a year before the election.

Maybe it's an unpopular opinion here but I don't think he did that bad. Granted, he wasn't spectacular either. That was kind of true of everyone tonight though. This debate was kind of a flat-line.

Several of his answers were incoherent, he often struggled to choose the right word, and this was his third try. If it was going to get better, it would have by now. Maybe it doesn't matter to voters but it worries me.

Why are we posting shoe0nhead on here?  I've never been sure whether she's willfully an alt-right gateway drug or just genuinely clueless and getting all her political views from Sargon and other alt-right YouTube types.

The Biden quote Virginia posted perfectly illustrates the generation divide over Biden's support.  Anyone old enough to be a parent knows you're supposed to make sure your kids hear as many words as possible from a young age so the language part of their brain develops more.  Kamala Harris also mentioned this last night.  But 18-29s just see that and go "lol make sure the kids hear words"

I don't keep up with Twitter personalities but the fact remains that he said it. Always deflecting.

Biden got really lucky that Castro attacked him like he did last night.

If it hadn't been for that, the biggest story about his campaign coming out of the debate would be his atrocious "record player" response.

Instead, the worst answer of the entire debate is getting drowned out by a moment that makes him look both much more sympathetic and more competent.  (To a lesser extent, this is also true of the protestors interrupting the story about his dead wife and daughter.)

Your tweet has nothing to do with what shoe0nhead said.

Nobody's denying that Biden said to let your kid hear words on the record player.  I'm just saying can we get editorializing from a better source than some ditzy alt-right girl on YouTube?

All I know is Biden said that what is needed to heal the legacy of slavery is to send social workers into the homes of black parents because we don’t know how to raise our kids. And yes I know he will still be in the lead because most voters are myopic and don’t pay attention but it doesn’t make it any less harmful or disqualifying.
