Among those Jesse Jackson. Maybe Al Gore since my boy Fred was the leader of his campaign in Kansas.

With hindsight, Gore. Without hindsight, no clue.

Anyone but Gore, who was endorsed by the Westboro Baptist Church and whose wife attempted to end freedom of speech, let's not forget.

I don't like Gore at all, but it's not fair to attack him for what his wife did.

With hindsight, this is exactly why I would want Gore nominated. If he lost, the Democratic party would learn that crime and “defense” aren’t what wins elections. If he won, they’d attribute it to the “8-year rule” and Clarence Thomas wouldn’t be appointed to the SCOTUS.

Al Gore, but the post-1992 Al Gore is much better than the 1988 version of him.

An actual Simon voter/supporter (my first election).  Gephardt should have been part of the poll as he was a major candidate too.

With hindsight, Gore. Without it, Simon or Gephardt. For everyone saying Jackson, He'd make 1988 another 1972.

Albert Arnold Gore, easily.

My dream ticket for 1988 would actually have been Mario Cuomo/Al Gore

1988 was the first year I ever voted, and I voted for Paul Simon in the primary, because I like the fact that he voted for the BBA (that's the Balanced Budget Amendment), one of the few Democrats to do so.

With hindsight, maybe Simon, in hopes that his defeat would lead Democrats to move away from fiscally conservative, DLC-type candidates.

Gore as a suburbanite in this, Jackson is radical if I lived in the 80s.

In 1988 I would have voted for Gephardt if I lived in a state where the primary was held before he dropped out. Gore lasted longer but by the time Gephardt dropped out it was clear he wasn't getting the nomination either, so I guess out of these Dukakis almost by default.

If you are anti-DLC why would you support Gore?
