https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8844413/Cuomo-says-religious-practices-Orthodox-Jewish-areas-blame-Covid-spread.html

Quote
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has said 'religious practices' within Orthodox Jewish communities has caused the renewed spread of Covid-19 in New York City and other hot spot zones within the state.

Cuomo said that while the overall infection rate in New York was low compared to other states, officials are closely watching 'mini clusters' that have popped up to avoid any statewide spikes.

He singled out hotspot neighborhoods across New York City and other parts of the state that are largely Orthodox Jewish strongholds.

'We're now having issues with the Orthodox Jewish community in New York where, because of their religious practices etc, we're seeing a spread,' Cuomo said in an interview with CNN on Wednesday.

While I agree with Cuomo, he could have worded that better.

Could someone from the Orthodox Jewish community challenge Cuomo, either in a primary or general election, like Simcha Felder, Dov Hikind, Simcha Eichenstein or someone else, and how would they do, either in a primary or a general election?

They've got Hogan 2024's vote.

Stefanik is going to be the next governor (next elected governor if Cuomo resigns) if she wants the job.

Stefanik doesn't have a chance even against Cuomo.

However, if Republicans want to win the seat, they should nominate someone like Chris Gibson or Nicole Malliotakis instead.

No, Nicole needs to stay in Staten island and protect me from ever having to see Max Rose's stupid face again.

Bill De Blasio is considering primarying Cuomo.

Quote
Mayor Bill de Blasio has been talking to his inner circle and union allies about running for governor, and sources say he is growing increasingly confident he can win.

“I fell out of my chair laughing — he is honestly thinking about it,” said a former senior adviser. “Because of all this Cuomo s–t, he is feeling bold.”

Hizzoner played coy all week when asked if he was eyeing his embattled rival’s job. “The future will take care of itself,” he said, grinning, when a reporter posed the question on Thursday.

The public comments are not only intended to rile Gov. Cuomo — but behind closed doors, de Blasio is openly talking with advisers about running against him in a 2022 Democratic primary, multiple insiders said. De Blasio is term-limited and leaves office at the end of this year, while Cuomo can seek re-election to a fourth term in November 2022.

The discussions come as Cuomo faces two widening probes — a state Attorney General inquiry into sexual harassment allegations from at least three women, and a federal investigation into his administration’s alleged cover-up of COVID-related nursing home deaths.

With Cuomo’s blood in the water, the mayor’s team has reached out to the big labor unions to gauge support, including District Council 37, which represents public employees; the Local 1199 SEIU healthcare workers union; and the 32BJ Local SEIU, which reps building workers, sources said.

“He’s calling his labor friends,” said one operative. “He’s interested. I think that no matter what – even if the governor runs for a fourth term — de Blasio will primary him.”

He's got my vote.

In further proof that Cuomo has learned absolutely nothing, he's now threatening members of the legislature who call for his resignation.

(The deal here is that investigations into NY senators is handled by JCOPE, which only releases details once material evidence emerges in support of prosecution.)
Wonder what his father would make of all this

If you think Mario Cuomo was any different, I have a bridge over the Tappan Zee to sell you.

Zeldin, sliding further to the right, unprovokingly attacks Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, calling for her to pay a "...massive political price" for ..."spewing anti-American propaganda". (Zeldin FB page)

I know of 0 context for this.

Holding another country accountable for committing war crimes is anti-American now.

de Blasio is not electable.

Hochul, DiNapoli, Suozzi, Maloney, Bellone and James are....

The world isn't your pizza shop. De Blasio can beat Cuomo and would win a general election.

Maloney is an anti-vaxxer, she is terrible.

Not that Maloney, Sean Patrick Maloney...

He is also not great. And he's a Cuomo ally blue dog who is unlikely to run against him.

Bill De Blasio not ruling out a primary challenge to Cuomo.

Quote
Term-limited Mayor Bill de Blasio refused Monday to rule out a run for governor while his nemesis — embattled Gov. Andrew Cuomo —grapples with multiple investigations over sexual harassment accusations and his handling of the coronavirus.

De Blasio, who completes his term for mayor on Dec. 31, was asked point blank during a press conference whether he would run for governor in 2022. He did not close the door.

“I have not ruled in or ruled out anything. I have not made any decisions about the future,” de Blasio said.

The Post reported in March that de Blasio was talking to advisers about a potential run for governor next year while three-term Democratic incumbent Cuomo is mired in scandal.

deBlasio would give Zeldin a chance at victory....he'd win Long Island, and potentially make de Blasio limited to only winning Westchester, NYC without Staten Island and maybe Erie and Albany counties...

You're delusional.

By the way, why the f**k is Cuomo still in office?

I don't think Hochul can win a Democratic primary.

She like Gillibrand was a moderate upstate Democrat, she is a white woman, The Black base of the Democratic Party will want James or Williams or Sharpton....

Unless Hochul really screws up, I don't really see anyone trying to oust the state's first female gov after only a year.

I think she will have problems with Black voters, white cops/firefighters, etc. Likely D. Zeldin can make it a race now, because he will have EVERY police and fire union on his side

I think she will win by a decent margin. She has a year and a half to introduce herself to voters.

I think Zeldin can give her a run, he'll lock down EVERY cop in the state and firefighter, even some Black cops, and we know how ruthless police unions are now post-George Floyd...

You've said the same thing three times. Move on.

A vacancy in the LG office could very well be an opportunity for Max Rose or Anthony Brindisi to make a comeback, as Hochul did after her half-term. Unlike in their house seats, their only worries would be in a primary.

I'd advise Hochul to pick a more progressive lt. governor to widen her appeal. That may even prevent a primary challenge. Maybe even Alessandra Biaggi, although she's not that experienced. But a female duo on the ticket would be interesting and their ideological lanes would be a good balance.

Biaggi isn't progressive.

She was literally endorsed by AOC.

Oh, I didn't realize that. My mistake. Looking at her platform, you are correct that she is more progressive than Hochul.

How do you see a Hochul vs Leticia James primary shaping up?

Kathy Hochul wins the primary. She then wins the general elections with around 51-52% of the vote.

Awful take. She will easily win the general. No Democrat would lose the general--not even Cuomo.

It's not 1994 anymore, no Republican has a chance in a deep blue state with modern polarization. This would be like a Democrat winning the Utah governor's race.

Massachusetts is different. They cream themselves to the idea of electing a moderate Republican to complement their Democratic legislature, and have done so the bulk of the last 25 years. The Democratic legislature typically blocks them from doing a lot of damage, although as Baker's tenure has proved, not all of it.

Are you of the view that Democratic states should not elect Republicans under any circumstances, even those who are moderate?

Yes. Unless it's someone like Jacob K. Javits.

You need balance. NJ/NJ/IL/MA are too taxed. You need a Pataki, a Christie, a Edgar or a Romney or Baker to balance with the taxes. A lot of white Democrats don't like taxes either, it's time for Black and Latino Democrats to come on board with that as well....Just like WV/MO.....

Republicans don't get to campaign on taxes anymore. Their governance proves the only thing they're interested in cutting is corporate taxes and essential services and education. The TCJA scam actually raised taxes on the working class at 2 year intervals from 2019-2023.

The only balance needed in NY is between progressives and liberals. The Republican Party is a joke that should be relegated to permanent opposition status.

Hochul confirmed to CNN today that her L.G. will hail from NYC proper, as opposed to just Long Island or Westchester. Granted, that doesn't really narrow down the list of names that's been out there in any way, but it's technically something.

Bill de Blasio was born in Manhattan.

You can just imagine the inevitable Battle of the Mayors-headlines that'd be written up over the next 4-8 years for anything even remotely related to any potential feuds, hostilities, &/or even just plain disagreements between Adams & Williams.

Think positive, man! Now that Bad Touch Andy is gone, Albany and the NYC will be singing together in perfect harmony.

For my gripes with Hochul, I can't wait until she gives this Republican crook the spanking he deserves.

Funny coming from the girl who owes Buffalo $700+  in vehicle fines. She'll be back in the workforce in a few weeks, thankfully.

The Ray Goldfield rec on this idiotic comment is just *chef's kiss*.

Looking forward to see all the political careers of these clowns ended in defeat. They're desperately attempting to replace a scandal-free governor who has governed like a Mainstream Democrat just for opportunistic reasons.

Jumaane is the only one who will still be in elected office and may run for something else (like congress) in the future.

Lol, you are clueless. Hochul is the third least popular governor in America according to a recent poll. She will face a strong primary challenge by someone who doesn't appoint Bloomberg retreads to their advisory team.

You are aware that many said they didn't;t have an opinion in the most recent approval polls.

Yes, but approval below 50 is never a sign that a candidate is untouchable.

Also, lol at the people thinking Suozzi is going to split the NYC vote. Nobody in NYC gives a rat's ass about him. He will cut squarely into Hochul's base as a moderate.
