There are occasionally talks of replacing The Star Spangled Banner as the national anthem. If this were to happen, what would you opt to replace it with?

I for one think it would be pretty dope to bring back Hail Columbia.

Bonus Points: If you pick Hail Columbia, what would you make the new VP anthem?

I think America the Beautiful, This Land is Your Land, and the Battle Hymn of the Republic are all better choices than the Star-Spangled Banner.

No, it was called "To Anacreon in Heaven". It was a song that was sung by drunk English people in pubs in the 1700s.

Of course, America is problem the only country in the world that has the national anthem originate from a song in another country. Much less a DRINKING song.

My Country Tis Of Thee is a beautiful anthem even if we have to share the tune with UK and Liechtenstein.  I would go with America The Beautiful, but the Manifest Destiny viewpoint of the first half of the 2nd verse is a bit tricky to deal with.

     I'm heartened by the support for Battle Hymn of the Republic, though if it ever became a serious possibility I suspect that the extremely Christian bent of the lyrics would become a sticking point.

As music we could do what the Czechs did -- using a tune written by Mozart that leaves the Czechs with the most beautiful of all national anthems...

One of my most passionate political positions is that the national anthem should be the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
