I mean I'd much rather have America's political/economic system than Venezuela's, but... based on everything we know about Trump, wouldn't he act as bad or worse than Maduro if you put him in that system?

Hard to say. Both are incompetent and believe it's all about them. Imagine if Maduro were President of the US and Trump were President of Venezuela. If Maduro was limited in what he could do and Trump weren't, would the situation be much different? That's doubtful and definitely debatable.
