Y’all sound like Agustín Laje and all the Latin American reactionaries who complain about “gender ideology” right now, except you’re also making disprovable claims of objective fact. Here’s four examples of actual Latin Americans, native Spanish speakers, using “lenguaje inclusivo”. Uruguayan student union. Another one in Argentina. Costa Rican indigenous movement. And one in Mexico.

That's not how that works, at all.

It'd be more useful to convince Spain to do what Sweden did to Masculine/Feminine than use something like "Latinx".

What did we do?

What did we do?

Common/Neuter [or some other sort of classification] instead of Masc./Fem.

There'd be much less stigma if those endings were no longer "womanly" or "manly"

That’s exactly what this is, though, that’s the point. Todes, les estudiantes, les diputades - that’s what lenguaje inclusivo is, it’s trying to create a neuter form. The problem with that is that you run into the people who post in this thread, the same kind of people who talk about “la ideología de género” down south.

The fact that this thread keeps getting sidetracked is a reflection of what's wrong with Warren's campaign.

If anything, it means she's keeping her head down, minding her business, and talking to voters. Most of the threads are hot when we are discussing something negative about the candidate & campaign. Warren is in a pretty good spot right now.

Warren is in 3rd spot in Iowa, NH & SC. In atleast Iowa & NH, she is causing Biden to win by being in the race.

Will progressives call for Warren to drop out to stop Biden? It is only fair since a lot of atlas folks were asking Sanders to step down when Warren was ahead in a couple of polls.

Which is exactly what will pay off for her in the long run.

...

Oh wait, I posted this a few weeks too early/late. My bad.

These kinds of arguments are a little ridiculous for a number of reasons often talked about around here (like there actually being differences between the voters who support Sanders vs Warren, many Sanders supporters liking Biden as their #2 and not Warren, ect), but that all goes out the window and is ignored when there's another chance to snipe.

In other words, stop arguing in such simplistic, 'electability' terms and maybe people will take you seriously.

Swedish has pretty simple grammar but to the extent we have pronouns masculine and feminine are in the same category.

Emphasizing this as part of her campaign could be a really good tactic. I am of the belief that the Democrats should utilize fear also where appropriate and in ways they can get away with it. This is one such example.

The only warning signs I see are Kamala's proposal to recreate the housing bubble. The student loan crisis, to the extent it exists because the bad loans are not a tremendous portion of the total, is likely to have a much more mitigated impact and won't collapse entire communities.

That's not to say things are fine and dandy and we shouldn't have something of a wealth tax to limit landlords from turning young people into permanent renters, but college debt is not turning a significant number of people permanently poor. It is turning quite a number of people into permanently high income however.

There is a chance of a recession in the next year or two. Of course Harris is an idiot, and what needs to be done is to repeal Prop. 13 and remove height limits in certain neighborhoods.

A recession is not a collapse. I think due to youth a lot of people here are way too panicked about what that means given that their only context is a worldwide meltdown where we suffered and still made out best. That or they are just hoping to see the political impacts which will be certainly happen but won't be overwhelming.

Not everything that Warren says in her editorial is wrong, but if this isn't economic demagoguery I don't know what is.

The case she laid out and facts on the ground are too solid and reasoned to be demagoguery. It's funny how when somebody advocates for working families they're called extreme or divisive. Powerful corporations and the richest Americans have a whole slew of politicians and political organizations carrying their water and often making policy decisions and policy directives based in nothing at all except lining their own pockets.

This is why Warren needs to be President.

For anyone interested in an anecdote about her event in Toledo today (which is the first town hall I’ve ever been to):

She focused heavily on unions and trade (which obviously was suitable for her audience), the wealth tax, the environment and green energy, and electoral/ethics reforms (ending gerrymandering, curbing lobbying, etc.). She almost entirely ignored abortion and gun control, and she only made a passing comment about immigration. Definitely seemed to be tailoring her content towards working class Rust Belt types, but I don’t know for sure how much she really changes her stump speeches from place to place.

For what it’s worth coming from one of her supporters, I genuinely found her to be a fantastic speaker and quite funny (and not just in terms of rehearsed lines, but also including witty responses to in-the-moment happenings).
