Wow! It's almost like Democrats across the board think immigration and border security are real concerns, and are opposed to a useless waste of billions on Demented Donald's desperate attempt to erect a monument to his ego and xenophobia.

Thank you for the enlightening post!

It may be petty, but it warms my heart to know how many Republicans and Trump supporters this is going to piss off.

Not only good, but GOOD!

Trump is an idiot and a wall is one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard of.

Thank you for the enlightening post!

So, the Democrats oppose Trump's wall because it's "xenophobic" and it costs billions?

Again, per the Boston Globe: "Democrats were more than willing to offer big sums of taxpayer money to keep Mexicans and other Latino immigrants out of the United States." That wasn't xenophobic?

And at the time, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers put a total price tag of $49 billion on that 700-mile double-layer 14-foot reinforced barrier Democrats voted for.

According to PolitiFact: "Experts have repeatedly told PolitiFact that the differences in semantics between a wall and a fence are not too significant because both block people."

Splitting hairs.

Amazingly enough, sane and decent human beings see a difference between exercising some control, according to well-established law, of their own borders, and on the other hand supporting a racist crook whose only real agenda is demonizing anyone different from his cult of racists as a distraction from his own crimes.

It's the actions people take that reflect their priorities, not their rhetoric.

When one makes such proclamations, but vote against every single proposal in Congress that would be a step toward that goal, they are hypocrites.  They're like alcoholics who view sobriety as a great idea, but who reject every entreaty to go to detox, treatment, AA, etc.  The GOP and its pols have made any number of similar statements about issues of racial equality and being non-biased toward minorities; to all the folks Amening the Democrats on immigration give the GOP the same props, in light of their record on Voter ID issues?

The Democrats are all in on open border; it works to their favor to have endless and unchecked immigration, and particularly immigration from Mexico and Central America.  They see Democrats Of The Future in "The Caravan" and think not one whit about the well-being of the American nation in their reasoning.  It's all politics.  This is not to say that the GOP isn't equally thoughtless toward the common weal of Americans on other key issues, but let's not provide the Democrats the sort of fig leaf they don't have on this issue.

Whoa. So, you're saying that for all practical purposes there's  been a wall on the border this whole time? Meaning that Trump's years-long rant about "The Wall" is not just the egotistical ravings of a scummy orange racist obsessed with erecting things, but also that he was lying?!? You and the other Republicans must be so embarrassed that you got suckered like that.

So all of a sudden it's not xenophobic to "keep Mexicans and other Latino immigrants out of the United States"?

Just exactly what are people cheering for here?

Are they cheering for not spending the money on a wall?  Or are they cheering for open borders, and ignoring our current immigration laws?

I tend to believe the latter.  Those who say "GOOD!" need to state what policies they DO advocate to prevent persons from illegally entering our borders.  After all, they don't approve of illegal immigration . . . or do they?

No. I said that Democrats voted for it, but Obama didn't quite get the job finished as promised. Big difference. So there has not been "a wall on the border all this time." Only 36.3 miles of the originally authorized high-quality double-layer barrier was ever built.

When Obama claimed the barrier was complete, PolitiFact said that was misleading and false.

You must be so embarrassed that you didn't check your facts first.

Exactly the argument I would make. We cannot have a completely open border, allowing for anybody to come in as they wish. That would be illogical, and would be an invitation to future individuals who may seek to violate our laws. I've made clear before that I support a comprehensive immigration reform bill, one that includes the grant of amnesty to DACA recipients, but also expands the number of immigration judges, enhances our border security, cuts down on chain migration, and imposes harsh penalties for the use of illegal immigrant labor. None of the posters on here have presented an alternative to what the Trump Administration has proposed.
