Also worth noting, she could be talking about a national service program similar to what a lot of Democrats propose. I certainly have my own feelings about that, but I don’t think it would disqualify her. Matter of fact a lot of older voters might like it. We will have to see when the interview comes out but I think it’s too early to count Her out

Mandatory national service during peacetime is anti american, and that's not a phrase I throw out often.
Oh I agree. But Harris and Duckworth and a lot of other folks have already signed on to Coons national service bill. Sidenote, we are currently primary him here in Delaware. P.m. me if you want to get involved!

Why Rice is in top contention is beyond me. She's never run for office and she brings nothing to the ticket.

She's also directly linked to the Benghazi hysteria and I have no idea why Team Biden would want to dig that up again.

Tbh I think it would be hugely to Biden's benefit if Trump went off about Benghazi for a big chunk of the campaign. Not convinced by Rice as a VP pick, but Benghazi is almost a reason to choose her; it would bait Trump into wasting time with an issue literally no one cares about anymore.

Good point.

I tried to warn y'all about her.

She's the Democratic Condoleezza Rice.

To add to this, CNN released a new article this morning with "sources close to the campaign" saying there are four top contenders

Quote
The search is being conducted under strict secrecy, with most campaign aides, donors and even many longtime Biden friends intentionally kept in the dark. Yet CNN spoke to more than a dozen people close to the Biden search process who believe that four of the leading prospects are Sen. Kamala Harris of California, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Rep. Val Demings of Florida and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

Interesting that KLB is on the list still. According to that CNN article which seems very well researched. Maybe in this day and age it makes sense for the VP to be head of the platform committee.

It doesn't quite say that.  It says that those are four of the leading prospects, which doesn't preclude there being at least a few other "leading prospects".

Also from that story:

Quote
Separate teams of lawyers assigned to each of the contenders are nearing the closing stages of reviewing three distinct types of records -- written, financial and medical -- in their background checks, according to people involved in the process. Members of the search committee have done extensive interviews with several candidates, the sources tell CNN, but Biden is not likely to sit down with finalists until mid-to-late July, with an announcement expected in early August.

Also:

Quote
Former Obama administration national security adviser Susan Rice is being thoroughly vetted, two people familiar with the matter say, as well as Rep. Karen Bass of California, who was strongly recommended to Biden by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Clyburn confirmed to CNN that Bass "is being vetted."

Sens. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois are also among a broader tier under consideration, sources say.

From that story:

Quote
Obama was once a strong proponent of Warren, largely because of her big ideas to revive the economy and address income inequality. But people close to him acknowledge it is impossible to separate the vice presidential search with events of the last month in the country.

Okay, as much as I still want Warren, it's gonna be a Black woman at this point. Otherwise, there's no reason that CNN's lead business writer would've gone ahead yesterday & written a speculation piece about Warren being Treasury Secretary if the conversation hasn't shifted to that.

You’re probably right, but I still think it’s going to be one of the nonKH Black women. Either Demings, KLB, Or rice. Possibly even bass, who knows?

New Atlantic article posted about Harris; Takeaways; still seem to be a good bit of skepticism in Biden‘s inner circle, but also a lot of resignation that she’ll probably be picked . Clyburn compared it to the Reagan Bush ticket

Reagan/Bush ticket? That's a dumb comparison by Clyburn.

He was just saying because they’re their former rivals. He also apparently mentioned Al Gore in 92, which I found weird because he didn’t run That year.

At about the 6:40 mark here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px1UPY08vWg , Bass is asked if she's being vetted for veep, but she dodges, saying “Anything in that regard needs to be referred to the campaign."

In the Times poll, four in five registered voters said that race shouldn’t be a factor in Mr. Biden’s selection of a running mate. That group included three-quarters of the black voters polled, and more than 8 in 10 white and Hispanic voters.

These majorities are overwhelming, by far greater than any polling we've seen on particular candidates. 91% of Black voters in swing states say race should not be a factor. I hope Team Biden is paying attention. Yet based on the names batted around so far, it seems he's caving to the small minority who insist it "has" to be a Black woman.

No matter who you support, do you think the decision  has basically been made already or do you think Biden is being honest when he says he won’t have it until August 1?

Per the CNN article's pointing out that the heads of the selection process have long believed that "the notification of selection should be made to the vice presidential nominee in advance of the public announcement, but with notice of only a day or two," they're being honest when they say we're not seeing the running mate for a while.

Kamala Harris is a "role model"? I'm not sure if I agree with that. I would still hope that Biden would choose Tammy Duckworth as his running mate, or another qualified and deserving woman of color. But if Kamala Harris is his running mate, then so be it. For me, getting Trump out is more important.

I apologize. It was a hypocritical thing to say, especially given that I think it has to be a woman. I suppose my fear of a slide into ethnic politics is what's driving my opposition to this particular litmus test, but there are certainly valid reasons for thinking it has to be a Black woman.
